The Japanese makeup brushes that is Canmake

#toolsofthetrade

Being a professional makeup artist, I love long-handled brushes because I have more control when putting on makeup on other people. It also maintains the right amount of distance from your client's face to your hand so the side of your palm won't be touching your client's skin.

When looking for makeup brushes for my own personal use on the other hand, I prefer short-handled brushes because I have easier control. That's why I love travel brushes. There is no rule whether to use long or short handled brushes on yourself, I just personally prefer it that way.

When I received these brushes from Canmake, I got all excited. As first impressions go though, I didn't like the fact that it was synthetic. Not that it's a bad thing, I just find that makeup doesn't really stick to them that much so you'll have to layer on the makeup to get the effect that you want.

I'll start with the cheek brush:

Canmake Cheek Brush
The packaging is in Japanese so you won't be able to understand anything that is written on there. Unless you can read and write Japanese, posting photos of the packaging is useless, but I did anyway for reference.

As usual, Japanese packaging is top notch. They don't scrimp!

You can't see it on the photo, but behind the brush itself, there's a thin small pouch for the brush. You'll see it later.

This brush is a short-haired, slightly rounded tip for maximum control. Instead of using it for blush though, I used it for foundation. I feel that it will have the same finish as Shiseido's flat foundation brush.

The hair is short so you can easily buff your foundation on your skin giving a more natural finish. It's made of synthetic hair so product won't stick stubbornly on the bristles. It's soft to the touch, but the short hair makes it firm for control.

Here's the little pouch I was telling you about. You can protect the brush with it so you can bring it with you when you travel, or if you will use it for blush, you can carry it in your cosmetic case without damaging the hair.

What I like to do is use a stainless steel palette for foundation. I pump product on the palette and I dip the tip of the brush on it to pick up some product.

I buff it on my skin using small circular motions with a very light hand, letting the brush do all the work. You can see that by buffing the foundation, the finish is very natural looking, and the application of the foundation is even and not very thick.

It's very easy to clean too! I used Aveeno's Nourish+Moisturize Shampoo to clean my brushes, and my SIGMA Brush Spa Glove. Just swirl it around the glove and the brush gets thoroughly clean without damaging the brush.

... Now let's talk about the face brush. This angled brush was made for applying loose powder or any powder for that matter on the face. Its angled brush makes it easy to apply to hard to reach areas. Instead of using it for powder though, I used it for applying bronzer instead so that I may be able to "sculpt" my face better, specially along the temples.

Its short handle makes it easy to control, and the long bristles (or hairs) makes it hard for you to look streaky. It prevents you from creating harsh lines along your cheekbones.

Made from synthetic hair, I love that it doesn't pick up too much product so you deposit the right amount of color each time the brush touches your face.

Gives a very natural looking contour on your face!
