Perfect Camo: Maybelline Super Mineral 24

by - Saturday, March 15, 2014

There are days when using a tinted moisturizer or foundations with a light finish is not enough. Yes, I do have major breakouts when it's that time of the month and it's extra difficult to cover them up, even more if your face decides not to cooperate with you that morning.

I don't like thick foundations because I love makeup that still shows the skin. You know -sort of like a shine-from-within look. But as I mentioned, there are days when your skin is having a diva fit and just don't want to cooperate.

... And that's where Maybelline's Super Mineral 24 Foundation comes in.

You must be wondering why the bottle has Japanese characters and yet it's an American brand and also made in China! Well firstly, this was first launched in Japan and it's become hugely popular with the Japanese!

What I love about the pump is that it dispenses the right amount of product with each pump. Some pumps go very deeply that you end up wasting more products.

You'll have to always clean the tip of the nozzle to keep it looking nice and neat. You always want to keep your products mess-free! There's no science behind the effects of not cleaning the nozzle after every use - cleaning it just makes it look pretty and neat!

The foundation has a slightly thick consistency. I already expected that since most mineral foundations tend to be a little bit thicker than regular foundations.

When I spread the foundation on my hand, I saw that the fine lines of my hand was more visible with the foundation. You ca see it on the photo below. It kinda looks dry and a little bit chalky.

I used Canmake's cheek brush to apply the foundation. I used small strokes going upwards or in circular motions to spread the foundation very naturally.

I like how it can camouflage all my blemishes! It has full coverage but it doesn't feel heavy on the skin at all. There's a little bit of caking on the under eye area where most of my fine lines are located, but no other caking was spotted on my face.

Buffing foundation with a brush will give a more natural finish that sponge. Sponge can give you a thicker finish.

With a light dusting of loose powder to set the foundation, the finished look is very natural. Except for the caking near the inner corner of my eyes (where my baggies are), this foundation creates a very polished look.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
PROS
  • Great full coverage.
  • Easily hides blemishes.
  • Full coverage can double as concealer, no need to use concealer under your eyes.
  • Non-sticky.
  • Gives the skin a healthy glow.
  • Easy to apply with fingers/brushes.
  • Seamless. "Melts" into the skin.
  • Very creamy but does not feel heavy on the skin.
  • Disguises dry skin.
  • Very comfortable wear!
  • Can be worn everyday, won't be heavy on the skin.
  • Can double as an eyelid primer! Just apply a thin layer on your lids.
  • Affordable!
  • Easy to find.

NEUTRAL
  • Gives a slight powder-finish.
  • If you apply too much, it can look a bit cakey.

CONS
  • No available shades for really tanned skin/morena skin.

Will I re-purchase? Yes.
Will I recommend it? Yes.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★
