An HG discovery: Coverderm Compact Powder

by - Thursday, October 20, 2016

To be completely honest, it's been so long since I found a face powder that doesn't make me look like a kabuki.

The last face powder that is so light on the face but gives good light-medium coverage that I have ever used was Maybelline when I was in college but that has long been discontinued. I have been looking for a pressed powder like it but I never found it until now, not even from Maybelline.

Coverderm Compact Powder in Normal Skin, PhP 1675
Coverderm has been around for ages but it was formerly called Covermark. If you are a makeup fan like me, then you would know that Covermark is the best (and the first) in camouflage makeup, covering skin problems like severe acne scars, scars, bruises, tattoos, vitiligo, birthmarks, and even tattoos.

When I started makeup artistry in 2004, Covermark was still available in SM but a few months later, they were no longer available.

Just a little background on the importance of camouflage makeup, back in the day, camouflage makeup was only available in dermas and not readily available in the market. And since various skin imperfections like birthmarks, acne, scars, burns, moles, vitiligo, dark spots, pigmentation, freckles and facial redness have to be covered on some important occasions like for formal occasions, one must opt to go to the derma to buy camouflage makeup, or even higher a professional makeup artist to cover them!

Now, brands have made camouflage makeup readily available in department stores for consumers that even have amazing benefits for the skin like reduce inflammations, restore skin's elasticity or even anti-aging benefits. Covermark is one of the pioneer brands in camouflage makeup, and it was just recently re-launched in Manila now known as Coverderm.
So, I received this Coverderm Compact Powder from their launch a few months ago, and I must say, I was really thrilled to have been reintroduced to this brand. I most specially got excited for this pressed powder because I really don't have anything extreme to cover with their camouflage makeup, so the pressed powder is a welcome surprise!

Housed in a gold sturdy, plastic packaging, this compact powder is really the ace of aces. The first thing I checked for was the smell. I am so happy that it didn't have any strong perfumed smell.
Their compact powder comes in three different formulas: Normal Skin (contains Vitamin E), Oily and Acneic Skin (contains Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil), and Dry-Sensitive Skin (contains Vitamin E, Hydrolized Wheat Protein, and Sodium PCA).

I chose the normal skin formula, and chose shade number 3 which is just perfect for my skin tone and shade.
This is a Compact Powder that is waterproof, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic. Each skin formula comes in 6 shades to choose from: 1, 1A, 2, 3, 4, and 4A. I chose the #3 shade because it seems to have agreed with my weird undertone shade of yellow and pink.
I have always loved compacts with packaging that separates the powder and the sponge. The oils from the sponge doesn't transfer on the powder making the powder stay intact. I hate it when powders harden because of the sweat and oil that has mixed into it.

Although if I had one issue with this product, it would be the sponge that comes with it. It's a plain sponge that looks like the inside of a velour puff, and it can't seem to apply the powder well on the skin. So I use Nippon Esthetic's Teardrop Sponge to apply this powder. I just love that sponge! It can even double as an oil blotter because it absorbs oil real well!
It has a smooth and velvet finish that is completely seamless when applied to the face. You won't know where the powder ends and begins. It's not at all chalky, and doesn't have that talc smell that you would usually smell in powder products.
I also love that it doesn't sit on the fine lines of the skin. It's just really invisible. It has a translucent feel, but has coverage. I just love love LOOOOVE using this powder on top of any liquid or cream foundation because it sets the makeup and feels so light! I also love using it alone when I am in a rush and it gives my skin a good light coverage and a flawless finish.
This is my bare skin, I have freckles and some old acne scars. I have a few tiny moles on my skin too. My nose is extra red because of the pregnancy!
After applying a single layer of powder on my skin (no liquid/cream foundation base), you can see that most of those skin imperfections are covered well, but my face doesn't look cakey or chalky. It has a flexible finish on the skin, and it looks like my skin can breathe!
A closer look on my skin, you can see how natural it looks. No thick, chalky, powder residue on the skin. It just makes the skin look flawless.
Now this is me with a full makeup face, still no liquid/cream foundation base. You can see how natural the skin looks without the look of a caky or thick base. Your skin will still look like skin after application!
In my opinion, the kind-of heavy price tag of PhP 1,675 is worth it with this product. It being hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic (plus it's waterproof!), it's really worth it. I would definitely purchase this powder after I hit pan.

Available in SM department stores.
MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★★
