My December 29 bride Myn had her trial session today. She opted for airbrush makeup! I am so jealous of her skin color! My frustration is to have nice tanned skin!
For Myn, I've decided to use a nice peach shimmer blush from Lancôme. For the eyes, I used Lancôme's quad shadow in fleur de peau. For her lips, I used a lip liner that was nude-pink, also by Lancôme. I think the warm toned palette suited her best.

The students of Vogue It Is Beauty School (fashion and beauty photography makeup) Hong Kong sponsored the catalogue shoot of Alliette while I was training there, a Hong Kong fashion clothing, shoes and accessories supplier. It was part of our training to be able to do a live photoshoot. This was back in 2005. We each did 1 model, 4 layouts each. There were 15 models, 15 artists (all students), 60 layouts, 4 stylists and 1 photographer. It was such an experience! We all used models from all over! We had Russians, Canadians, Asians, Brazilians, etc.

Audrey has a beautiful skin color that I wanted to emphasize more. I used colors that have a warm undertone to accent her skin color. I used colors like tangerine, coral, peach, light gold, and apricot. I did the no-makeup makeup look on Audrey to keep the focus on her beauty, not the makeup.

Sunless tanning is sooo in! You get the same amazing color without the harmful rays!
I first heard about this product from Carla Sibal when I did her makeup for Project Runway Philippines. She told me all about ModelCo.'s amazing airbrush tan in a can!
Finally, a self-tanner that puts an end to stained hands and uneven coverage. Like your own personal airbrush, Tan goes on as a fine mist leaving you with a smooth, natural-looking tan. I love using this product because you can wash it right off but it doesn't rub off on your clothes!
The deep golden pigment gives you an instant all-over healthy glow while the long lasting self-tanner develops underneath in hours.
Infused with hydrating aloe vera and the exotic scent of cocoa butter, Tan delivers the perfect color with a 360-degree nozzle to cover all hard-to-reach areas.
To properly tan from a can: Exfoliate your body with a moisturizing body scrub. Cover the floor area in which you intend to stand and spray.
Apply Tan within 30 minutes after showering - when your skin is at its best to react with the active ingredients. Shake can well. While holding the can at least 15 inches away from your body, spray in a light, even motion. Wait ten minutes before dressing and eight hours before washing to set and let the color completely develop.

I don't know what's with my current fascination with with the 70's but Hendry and I attempted to recreate a 70s look both with the makeup, styling and photography! Our model We met Katerina through Hendry's friend who works for a talent agency, and we just fell in love with her face (and me with the hair too).
As mentioned on my previous post on 1970 disco-diva makeup, the overarching elements of the 70s' makeup fashion incorporated natural, fresh-faced, somewhat earth angel undertones. Cosmetic items that were typically omitted during this era included:

As mentioned on my previous post on 1970 disco-diva makeup, the overarching elements of the 70s' makeup fashion incorporated natural, fresh-faced, somewhat earth angel undertones. Cosmetic items that were typically omitted during this era included:
- Mascara
- Lip Liner
- Artificial Eyelashes
- Heavy Cake Matte Foundations
Though these items were huge in the incendiary 60s, they now had less of a role due to their dramatic and unnatural cosmetic effects.
If you are seeking to mimic the fashion of 70s' makeup, you will solace in a wide palette of pastel and neutral colors as well as a dependency on the following cosmetic items:
- Lip Gloss Pots
- Shimmering Eyeshadow
- Neutral or Pale Eyeliner
- Muted Blushes
- Frosted Lipstick Shades
Mascara does not have to be entirely absent from your 70s' face, but focus more on lengthening rather than thickening formulas.
GET KATERINA'S 70s LOOKSexy Luminous Skin
The 70s inspired a new wave in the field of skincare, resulting in women's attention to face creams that included ingredients like avocado oil and various natural moisturizers. This focus on skin health aided the look of a dewy fresh face. If you are looking to copy the style of 70s' makeup fashion, then the first step to achieving this look is a clean well-moisturized face.
Skip foundation if possible. Or if you need some coverage to even out your skin tone and hide blemishes, look towards tinted moisturizers or illuminating foundations. A tinted moisturizer that provides some coverage as well as glimmering particles that work towards the result of even dewy skin.
A Natural FlushYour 70s' makeup fashion look requires the subtle oomph provided by a rosy glow. However, powder blushes rarely look natural. A refreshing gel blush can provide a clean flush to your cheeks. A stain is worshiped by women and celebrities worldwide for its fresh water-based and easily blendable formula. Darker tones may enjoy the bronzing effect of Bronze Goddess or the berry tones of Flush. The Blushing Bride Cheek Stain is acclaimed as being ideal for all skin types due to its subtle plum color.
Glimmering EyesThe 70s was all about pearlescent shadows. Whether it be soft neutral shades or dark brown or even gray, it was very much in during the 70s!
Let Your Lips Shine and Shimmer
The best aspect of 70s' makeup fashion is that you won't be looking at a compact all day in order to ensure that your sirenesque lipstick is not feathering outside the rigid boundaries of your lip liner. Make this season easy on yourself by engaging in the shine of 70s-like lip glosses and frosted lipsticks. Some women of the 70s preferred matte neutal lips instead of glossy ones. On Katerina, I opted to do a nude matte lipctick and heave shimmer eyes!
Hair
Let your hair absolutely loose and straight! Hair bands worn around the head was also in during the 70s!

Create a 1940s Face
Natural beauties (natural with "a little support") were the ideal of the forties.
Face powder was used to match the skin or to gave a nice rosy glow. To get this effect a slightly darker warmish foundation was used and then powdered over with a powder that was lighter than normal skin.
To get a natural rosy look popular rouge colors were red with pinkish undertones, bright pinks with fuchsia undertones and bright roses.
Eyebrows were kept fairly natural in thickness, but were manicured into clean, well defined arches and accented by use of a dark brown pencil .
For lips all shades of red including clear bright reds, cherry reds, pinkish reds, and orange reds were popular. Two different color plans for lipstick use existed. On the on hand the "monotone", where lipstick was used to support a glorified natural look (includes light red, reddish orange, and raspberry tones) and on the other hand the "contrast", where lips brought a definite accent (includes cherry red, crimson and vermilion shades). In any case lips should look full and soft. To effect this top lip was slightly exaggerated.

My half Filipina half australian friend from college Cristina Telfer moved back to Australia just after 1 year in La Salle. She and I were in the same summer program before freshman year and we became very close. Anyway, just last October she came home for her 26th birthday to visit her mom and came over to see me. She asked me to do her makeup for a casual shoot that her friend (who just got a new pro camera) arranged to just experiment (who also said didn't have any intensions of going pro! lol!).
When Cristina sent me this photo, I found her absolutely gorgeous!! I miss you so much Cris!! Hope to see you again this Christmas!!
GET THE LOOK:
1. Spot conceal only on areas you need covering.
2. Massage your foundation mixed with a little moisturizer on your face.
3. Set your face with loose powder. Make sure that your skin has a soft velvety feel.
4. Wash the entire lid with a bone colored shadow. Make sure that you apply up until your brow bones.
5. Contour with mocha shadow. Make sure that you blend the creases well.
6. With a wet fine line brush, apply a shimmery shadow to the upper and lower lashlines. and the inner corner of your eyes.
7. Apply 2 coats of lengthening and curling mascara.
8. For your cheeks, use a nice apricot shade (but depends on your skin tone).
9. Line your lips with a deep shade of tangerine or apricot and fill in your lips with the same pencil. Top it with a lipstick that is slightly lighter than your liner. Use a gloss that has a bit of metallic finish.
10. Finish off by brushing a quick sweep of loose powder all over your face.

I was finally able to send money to my old makeup school to send me my folio shots from my black & white photography makeup class in Bangkok! A 2 week course studying shading, colors in black & white and stuff. Now, looking at the pics, I found out that doing makeup for B&W isn't as easy as it looks. I'm really glad I took this special class catered specially to black & white photography makeup!

Our peg for this shoot was supposed to be Cristina Aguilera, but it turned into something else! Hehehe... I have been bugging my pinay friend (yes, she's very much pinay wearing a blonde wig with matching fake nails! Hahaha!) Julie who looks a teensy bit like Caludine Baretto to shoot with me and with my photographer friend Jason (who shoots only as a hobby) for the longest time... Finally, she gave in! Hahaha! She said she was camera shy but just look at her gorgeous pics... She's a natural! I love it!!
We shot in Jason's studio (yes, he has a studio but hardly uses it!) in Quezon City where he had everything! Even funky animal printed cloths (hence the zebra background...)

Julie is the non-makeup wearing, jeans, white shirt, and flats kinda gal. I wanted to transform her that no one would recognize her!! I wanted to show how sexy and beautiful she is! I want people to say "Is that really you??" when they see her pics! Yes, she knows I'll be posting these pics! Hahaha! I borrwed the wig from my friend who used this during Halloween 2 years ago. I really love it!!

Bored sick of curls or waves? Follow these tips to get superb straight hair safely!
- When blow-drying your hair, make sure the hairdryer is pointing down, so that all the hair follicles point down, which shines your hair. Also, before blow-drying, consider applying a heat protection spray.
- If your hair is fragile, use a low setting on the iron. If it's thick and unruly, make the heat almost the hottest it can be. When in doubt, keep it on a lower setting; it will be less damaging.
- Another type of straightener that can help straighten without damaging is an ionic or wet to dry straightener. Instead of using two heated plates, it acts as a blow-dryer causing less damage and less frizz.
- Also, if your blow dryer has a cool setting, turn that setting on after drying it fully. It makes the hair appear shinier, just like rinsing your hair with cool water will.
- Do NOT straighten your hair when your hair is wet or damp. It will cause it to frizz and will feel sticky under.
- Another good way is to use a lighter shampoo, or if you don't use too many styling products, you can get away with shampooing less often.
- If your hair is very curly and frizzy, you may want to consider relaxing it. Even if you straighten it often, it won't stay like that for a long time. Relaxed hair is easier to straighten.
- If you know you're not going any where, then don't straighten your hair. Why? To give your hair a break.
Warnings!
- Don't go over one piece of hair too many times, it's unnecessary and can damage your hair.
- Don't use a straightener more than two or four times a week. Constant straightening will lead to damaged hair, no matter how many protective sprays you use. Consider wearing your hair naturally or putting it up as alternate hair styles.
- Don't brush your hair when it's wet, because it stretches and breaks the hair. Always use a wide-toothed comb.
- If you're in a rush and need to dry your hair, don't take the easy way out and straighten your hair when it's wet. You are boiling your hair! Major damage. Always dry hair completely prior to straightening. To limit damage to your hair you can wash and let dry naturally before flat ironing. Still use the leave-in conditioner before flat ironing to help manage the hair and tangles.
- Don't use too much hair serum or hair products, because you don't want your hair to look lank and greasy.
- If you want your hair to be extra soft and shiny, section your hair when blow drying.
- Don't leave the straightener on a specific piece of your hair for too long. If the straightener is very hot, you may end up frying your hair off, and it will take a long time to grow back.
- Don't use hair spray unless you are planning on taking a shower that night because it is not good for your hair to leave it on all night long.
- No matter if you have a straightener that says it goes wet to dry, DON'T BELIEVE IT!!! It's still major damage to your hair to straighten your hair when it is still wet and it's still just as boiling your hair.

Nothing is more fem and chic than a great set of red lips. No matter what your age, skin tone, or face shape, there is a perfect red lipstick color for everyone. The one great thing about the timeless shade of red lipstick is that there are always options in price for every budget. So get ready for winter by finding a great red lipstick or two.
In no particular order, my 10 best:
1. Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Brickhouse
2. Nars Lipstick in Fire Down Below
3. Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Creme Lipstick in Red N°5
4. MAC in Spice It Up!
5. Fanny Serrano Moisturific Lipstick in Swiss Kiss
6. Clinique Different Lipstick in Angel Red
7. Smashbox Cream Lipstick in Lavish
8. L'Oreal Colour Riche in True Red
9. Bloom Lip Crayon in Pash
10. Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Passion Red
2. Nars Lipstick in Fire Down Below
3. Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Creme Lipstick in Red N°5
4. MAC in Spice It Up!
5. Fanny Serrano Moisturific Lipstick in Swiss Kiss
6. Clinique Different Lipstick in Angel Red
7. Smashbox Cream Lipstick in Lavish
8. L'Oreal Colour Riche in True Red
9. Bloom Lip Crayon in Pash
10. Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Passion Red
Now that you have chosen a possible red shade for you, another important consideration is the application.
STAINED: If full-on color makes you nervous, apply lipstick with your finger, patting it on the center of the lip and working outward to create a stained look, which is discreetly sexy and wearable anywhere.
INTENSE: First choose a lip liner that either matches the desired lipstick or is a shade darker than your natural lip color. After tracing the lip line, smudge the line slightly with a Q-tip or your fingertip to make it less rigid. Apply lip color with a lip brush, sweeping on just enough to lay a foundation of color. Blot lips with a tissue and apply a second coat, painting color on carefully. This gives lips dimension and makes lip color last.

My sister Margs is both a career woman, a wife, and a mother to 2 adorable children. She's busy working 8 hours in the office, then the rest is spent being a mom and a wife in her home. I asked her if I could take a look what's in her kikay kit and tell me a little something about what a busy career mommy brings with her:
1. Eye Drops - "I carry this around because I have a bad case of allergic rhinitis."
2. Concealer - "I have dark circles, and it's even worse when I don't get enough sleep! So this concealer makes me look I've had 10 hours sleep even if I've only had 5!"
3. Lip Balms - "I hardly wear makeup. Only when I am going to a meeting or going to a night out with friends. But one thing I can't live without is lip balms. Tinted ones are my fave, at least I won't look so pale."
5. Gel Blush - "I find it easiest to wipe this on my face without having to pull out brushes or sponges. I am always on the go so when I need to put anything on, I only have a few minutes!"
6. Hair Tie - "I like letting my hair loose. But when it gets hot during the day, it's best to be prepared!"
7. Mini Brush - "One thing I hate is having messy hair! I've had this mini brush for years! I can't live without it!"
8. Pressed Powder - "The single product that I know how to apply expertly! Sometimes all I put on powder and lip stick when running to the grocery store!"
9. & 11. Mascara - "I don't usually put on mascara, but I just carry this around just in case!"
10. Liquid Eye Liner - "Ever since you showed me how liquid liners can change the shape of your eyes, I knew I had to have this product!"
12. Lipstick - "This is the second tube of this shade that I have. This color suits me so much that I don't carry any other shade. I can use it both for day and for night."
13. Tweezers - "I hate having messy brows, having a pair of tweezers in my kit is like a security blanket."
14. Colored Lip Gloss - "If I want a more intense color for my lips, I top this gloss on my lipstick."
15. Eyelash Curler - "Need I say more?"
16. Cosmetic Bag - "I've had this cosmetic kit for years! I just love how fashionable it is. It's actually spacier than it looks!"

THE LOOK: Slight smoky eye with smudged eye liner pencil. As base, I used a pewter shade of shadow and contoured with dark grey on her creases and lash lines. I then smudged black khol liner on the lash lines for that smoky effect. For Jasmine's brow bones, I blended light gold to soften the hard edges of the grey eye shadow.
Stain on the lips and keep them gloss free. I used a cream blush on her cheeks in baby pink.

My friend Gary was going to a Christmas party last night that required a costume. Their company had a ROCK theme where they were required to come as their favorite rock icon. He asked me if I could transform him into Billy Idol. Ok... I didn't who know in the world Billy Idol was so I asked for a picture. As soon as I saw the picture he sent me, I knew that Gary could actually pull the look off! So, a few hours before the party, we went to work:
I thought that it was pretty close... Although some people at the party thought he looked more like that guy from Twilight than Billy Idol, but I thought it looked OK! Hahaha! Well, I still had fun putting makeup on him and mega-contouring his cheekbones! Not to mention, styling his hair and spraying it with gold temporary dye!

I have received more than a dozen emails asking me what to bring with them in their makeup kits. Also, people have always thought that just because I do makeup for a living, I have a state-of-the-art "tool kit". To be honest, my skin is not that high maintenance, so I can get away with wearing anything on my face. I basically just use makeup that people give me.. Gifts from beauty editors, friends, some stuff I buy from sales, etc. To those of you who have extremely sensitive skin, buy makeup in your brand of choice but with these tips on which to buy.
I finally took the time to take a photo of what's in my kikay kit. I numbered them and labeled them too so you too can have a guide on what essentials you can bring in your bag.
1. Eye Drops - this for me is the most important thing in the whole wide world. My eyes are always itching when I get allergies, and I hate having red eyes! People might think I have sore eyes! I always bring this just in case. Nothing is more unattractive than having a pair of blood shot eyes!
2. Oil Blotters - This is man's greatest invention! You can look fresh in seconds! I always bring this with me when I only have a few minutes to touch up and be oil free!
3. Lip Balm - When I don't feel wearing lipstick or lip gloss, I use lip balm. Specially on days when the air is so dry and my lips are getting chapped. I think lip balms are life savers! Get tinted ones so you'll still have a little color.
4. Khol Pencil - This I love bringing around with me. The khol pencil can make my look dramatic in a minute! When I have an important client I have to meet, or to meet up with friends for dinner, I just line my eyes with this pencil and smudge! Voila! Instant smokey eyes!
5. Dual Purpose Mascara - I personally think that Lancôme's L'Extreme mascara is the best for lengthening and curling! Well, at least for me. But anyway, any brand of mascara that you are used to is also a MUST HAVE in your kit. Sometimes, all you have to wear is this!
6. Liquid liner - For intensity on the eyes, I apply liquid eye liner. Not so much a MUST HAVE, but also a great makeup tool to carry around just in case *wink wink*
7. Dual Wet & Dry Foundation - When I am just going to work or go out anywhere during the day, I use my pressed powder dry. When I am going to a party or an event, I use it wet for more coverage! Dual purpose products can be a big space saver in your kikay kit!
8. Mini brush kit - I think that bringing short-handled brushes is a must for every girl. If you would like to properly transform your daytime look to an evening look, you need the proper brushes! The red-handled ones are from SUESH, the yellow-handled ones are from Bobbi Brown.
a. Blush brush
b. Eye blender brush
c. Eyebrow brush
d. Concealer brush
e. Eyeshadow applicator
f. Mini contour brush
g. Eyeshadow base brush
h. Lip brush
i. Flat eyeliner brush
j. Ultra fine eyeliner brush
Get your own mini brush kit at www.suesh.com!
9.-10. Loose Powder Blush - It's harder to bring around loose powders, but I prefer it actually. The reason behind it is that I am a very clumsy girl, so when I drop my stuff around, I don't have to worry about breaking my blush and making a mess in my kit (don't you just hate that?)! I carry around 2 shades, one for day (matte and light colored), and for evening (deeper in color with slight shimmer).
11. Eyelash Curler - Whether it is Fanny Serrano or Shu Uemura, they serve the same purpose. To curl your lashes to a flirtatious curve ;)
12.-13. Lip Sticks - This too, I carry in twos. Depends on my mood or my look. When I will be doing a dark heavy eye look, I keep my lips light. If I want to keep my eyes bare, I use a deeper shade of red for my lips. It's better to carry 2 just in case. You'll never know what you'll be in the mood for later in the day.
14.-15. Eyeshadow Quads - I always bring 2... So that's like bringing 8! This week, I am carrying around a black/gray palette, and a brown palette. Sometimes, I bring a green palette or purple palette. These will come in handy for those spur-of-the-moment gimmick with friends.
16. Stippling brush - I love love love Suesh's stippling brush. I use this for applying my blush. The mini blush in my brush kit I use for contouring my cheeks. I love how this brush evenly covers my cheeks with product with ease just by swirling it around!
17. Cosmetics Bag - This bag is a gift from my sister. I love how it carries all my tools! It's spacious and it's chic! Love it!
18. Cotton Buds (not photographed) - I carry around a couple of these in mini zip-lock bags, specially when I am wearing heavy eye liner. You know how nasty it is when the product gets under your lower lash lines and makes a mess? Well, that's what these buds are for! Stop using your fingers! You don't know where they've been!
So there you go girls! Try organizing your kits today! I also read this amazing tip from Bobbi Brown -try putting your makeup in clear zip-lock bags! So that you wouldn't have to rummage through your kit every time you need something?
You do not have to carry around a huge kikay kit to school or to work everyday. Remember, the extra weight you're carrying everyday ruins your posture and your back too!
Have fun!
