Why going nude on nails is sometimes better

by - Tuesday, July 07, 2015

Hey gals! It's been so long since I posted anything on my blog! I may have been M.I.A. because baby Henri has been taking most of my time, but believe me, I am very much active on social media. I guess that would do for now since I can micro-blog on the go and I can keep you guys updated on the latest beauty trends!

So, for those of you who have been following me for a while now would know that I am a polish addict; although sometimes, when I do my makeup or when I dress up, I find myself trying to match my nail polish instead of the other way around. If I like a particular outfit, I would have to change the color of my polish but there just isn’t time to remove the polish and painting on a different color to match my outfit –not to mention, the painful time it takes for them to dry!

On today’s post, allow me to show you different makeup looks and how they go so well with nude nails! Plus, a bit of tutorial on how to put on different makeup looks that suit your mood.

This is me with no makeup, on most days, I love letting my skin breathe and just keep my skin makeup free. I save putting on makeup on days I have to face some clients or attend events, but most of the time, you will see me makeup-free.

More on going bare after the break...

When I do put on makeup for casual meals with family and friends, or when I have to meet with clients, I go for the simplest and the most classic makeup which is going for nude and neutral colors.

NUDE MAKEUP:
I love keeping my face look makeup-free but a bit more put together and very clean. I love nude and blushing pink lipsticks because they are so feminine. They give color to your whole look and they look the most flattering in photos.
Doing this simple face is quite easy! Just follow these steps to create this fresh look:

1. Start with cleansing, toning and moisturizing. I applied a primer on my skin.
2. I like keeping my base fresh and light so I used a pressed powder.
3. Then, I did my eyebrows with a pencil and a tint to make my brows a bit lighter to create a balance.
4. I then applied two shades of blush. A darker more earthy tone on my cheek bones and another blush shade on the apples of my cheeks to make them pop!
5. I curled my lashes and applied 3 coats of mascara.
6. Then, I used a nose shading powder to contour my nose. I kept it light to make it look natural.
7. I then used a nude colored lipstick on my lips.

When I am feeling a little bit more adventurous with colors, I either clash my colors or use shades that complement each other. With this look, I used two shades that look like they are of opposites but are actually complementary since they belong to the same color family.

To pull of this look, choose shades that complement each other. I used blue and red because they both belong to the same color tone family, which are the cool-tones. For example, try using blue and green together as your eyeshadow. They both belong to the cool tone family as well.

COMPLEMENTARY/CLASHING COLORS:
Start recreating this look (or you can choose your own clashing/complementing shades!) by deciding your direction on which way your look is going to go. Are you going for warm or cool shades?

1. Start with cleansing, toning and moisturizing. I applied a primer on my skin.
2. I like keeping my base fresh and light so I used a pressed powder.
3. Then, I did my eyebrows with a pencil and a tint to make my brows a bit lighter to create a balance.
4. I then applied a blush that has a cool tone, which is pinkish. A darker more earthy-pink tone on my cheekbones and another blush shade on the apples of my cheeks to make them pop!
5. I applied a thin layer of bright blue pencil eyeliner.
6. I curled my lashes and applied 3 coats of mascara.
7. Then, I used a nose shading powder to contour my nose. I kept it light to make it look natural.
8. Then I applied a bright red lipstick on my lips.

And the icing on the cake, choose accessories that complement your makeup. If you go for cool tones, choose an outfit and accessories that belong in the same color family. Other clashing shades that complement each other would be gold and red. Try a sweep of gold eye shadow on your lids and a splash of very red lipstick on your lips! God is warm-toned while red is cool-toned, and yet, they complement with each other!

Now going for a look that has one color tone is quite easy. It’s actually one of the basic rules of makeup. If you choose a color tone for your look, try using products that belong to the same color tone family.

ONE COLOR TONE MAKEUP:
I chose to use orange tones because they go well with gold accessories. Gold looks best on warm skin toned women, which is why I used them altogether to create a harmonious flow of shades which are warm tones: oranges, bronzers, and golds.
Using gold accessories on warm-toned shades is the best way to go to complement your makeup. If you decide to use cool-tones, go for silver!
A bronzer on my cheek bones to make my skin look more warm than it actually is, and an orange-tone blush on the apples of my cheeks to make them pop! Make sure that your shade choices are of the same color tone family to give a nice flow to your makeup.
5. I curled my lashes and applied 3 coats of mascara.
6. Then, I used a nose shading powder to contour my nose. I kept it light to make it look natural.
7. Choose either a coral shade of lipstick or a shade that has a warm undertone. Peachy-pink shades will do as long as the dominant shade is on the warm or orange side. For this look, I opted for a bright orange lipstick because I love bright shades!
