#tmmandbaby

Lucky for me, Henri loves bath time! When I was pregnant, giving the baby a bath was one of the scariest thing I ever thought I would have to do because they are so delicate. But when Henri was born and I had no yaya yet to help me at home, I had to bite the bullet and just go for it!

Now at 3 months, Henri loves bath time and looks forward to it every morning. During our first doctor's appointment, our paediatrician advised us not to use any lotions on our baby since they don't really need it. Specially powders. But she did tell us to use whatever soap we wanted as long as it is very very gentle.

To be quite honest, I have never heard of Grandma El's before and so I was really excited when I heard from a blogger friend that they were launching. Not knowing what it was, I was still excited nonetheless since I didn't know anything about baby products! Well, except maybe for Mustela.

More on Grandma El's after the jump!

So a little background on Grandma El's. It all began in 1972 when a renowned skin care specialist and cosmetic chemist, Robert Posner created a special formula that was used to heal patients with bedsores and other wounds in New York. Decades later, his son Jonathan saw the need for a truly safe and effective diaper rash product so he took their special formula and started Grandma El's.
I have been using Mustela's Diaper Rash and Prevention Cream and Henri's skin and it seems to agree with him. I am always open to other options though so that I can recommend.

Grandma El’s diaper rash remedy is an all-natural, and USA made, ointment that creates a breathable barrier that soothes, calms, and heals any rash that your baby may develop. It is free of Parabens, Phthalates, and SLS so it is perfectly safe to use with every diaper change.

Compared to Mustela's diaper rash and prevention cream, Grandma El's is an ointment that has the consistency and appearance similar to Vaseline. It looked really oily so cloth diaper mommas may have a bit of concern using this product but as it turned out it's quite safe for cloth diaper users. Of course, this is according to some of the moms who reviewed this since I am a disposable diaper kind of mom.

I haven't used this tear-free baby shampoo on Henri yet since he doesn't have the need to use one yet. He has like maybe 5 hairs so it's pointless!

This special shampoo provides a soft, creamy lather which caresses as it cleanses. The controlled lather helps to keep suds from your baby's eyes. The neutral pH of this exceptional formula prevents irritation and eye tearing. It is Paediatrician recommended, baby friendly, and helps prevent cradle cap, cradle cap is that scaly thing that happens to your baby's head during the first few months of life.

Grandma El's shampoo contains no harsh soaps or alcohols. It is enriched with natural chamomile and aloe vera to bring skin soothing, hair softening, and scalp healing nutritive properties to the formulation. It promised to leave your baby's hair soft, shiny, and smelling fresh and clean, naturally!

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (coconut), Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate (coconut), Sodium Trideceth Sulfate (petroleum), PEG-150 Distearate (palm oil), PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Cocamide (coconut), Gluconolactone (corn), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (aloe), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extractchamomile), Sodium Hydroxide (Derived from Salt), Citric Acid USP, Fragrance (bergamot, violets, geranium, honey, rose, carnation, vanilla and musk)

Grandma El's babby lotion is made with Aloe, Chamomile, Calendula & Vitamin E Enriched. Grandma El's Gentle Baby Lotion nourishes and moisturizes as it soothes and calms your baby's sensitive skin with the natural botanicals Chamomile and Calendula. The light textured lotion will help protect and soften your baby's delicate skin, keeping it smooth and healthy. It is enriched with Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter and Avocado Oil. Of course, this does not contain any harsh ingredients and is also Dermatologist recommended.

Since Henri is not yet using lotion, I can't use this yet so I will have to revisit this blog post when he is already using lotion. It smells so good too I want to use it on myself!
The Tear-free gentle baby wash however agrees with Henri's skin very much. Henri developed  an eczema-type rash after switching from baby soap to baby soap, I even opted for Dr. Woods Baby Mild Castile Soap from Healthy Options to avoid fragrances but the rash was persistent. The rash kept coming back, and the doctor said he had sensitive skin.

This cleanser is mild, gentle, natural and most importantly, safe for your baby's skin. The neutral pH and addition of natural Aloe Vera, Japanese Green Tea, and Cucumber Extracts add a cooling, soothing, healing, anti-oxidant and skin nutrient activity which directly benefits baby's sensitive skin. This formulation is non-allergenic and non-irritating and will safely make your baby's skin clean, fresh, and cuddly soft, naturally! 8 oz. Give your baby the most natural, soothing bath time possible.

It doesn't contain any ingredients that I try to avoid! Ingredients: Deionized Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine (coconut), Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate (coconut), Sodium Trideceth Sulfate (petroleum), PEG-150 Distearate (palm oil), PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Cocamide (coconut), Gluconolactone (corn), Glycol Stearate palm oil), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (aloe), Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract (Japanes Green Tea), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hydroxide (Derived from Salt), Citric Acid USP, Fragrance (bergamot, violets, geranium, honey, rose, carnation, vanilla and musk)
So here's Henri before bath time, he's all smiles because he knows it's bath time!
Here's a closer look of his rashes. They appear only on his chest and his tummy. It actually looks more red in person than in photos.
I am using Grandma El's diaper rash ointment and some other few essentials I feel work really well on Henri. I don't know why people say mineral oil is so bad on baby's skin or even deadly, but I beg to disagree. I will do another post on that!
Here's Henri after bath time! Really happy and now itch free from his rashes. Of course it took a couple of bath times for the rashes to completely go away, but they did!

Grandma El's products are available in Babyland and Rustan's Department Stores.
