This Summer: Daytime Soft Subtle Smokey Eyes with MAC Riri

by - Thursday, April 10, 2014

Ok, I know this Mac Riri Veluxe Pearlfusion Shadow in Phresh Out was last year's Holiday Collection and may not be available anymore, but it's so pretty that it deserves a blog post! When this was given to me, I wasn't sure how to use it because it might be too pearlized. I was always afraid of pearl shadows (except for highlighting maybe), because I don't have deep-set eyes and applying pearlized shadows will just make my eyes look more puffy. I din't want to swatch it too because I didn't want to mess it up without having to take photos first. #kikayproblems

But I finally took the leap and just went on with it! It's all about experimenting anyway, right?

MAC Riri, PhP 2,500

MAC has one of the best packaging out there. Very classy and sturdy too! I have always loved MAC because it was a MUST brand for starting makeup artists out there. I started my career in 2004 as a freelance makeup artist, and MAC was always the brand of choice to be able to achieve great makeup looks.

As I have mentioned in one of my previous posts, I love palettes because all the shades go together and can be blended well together without clashing.

The cover flips open and it's magnetized too so the cover doesn't open and close flimsily. When you look at the shades you will get a little intimidated because they look really shimmer-y. To be completely honest, I was thinking 'how will I use this?', but in the end? MAC prevailed!

Here is another photo of the palette. You can see that it almost looks like foil shadow (kinda like what you use in foiling) so it's a little intimidating as I have mentioned before.

Swiping swatches however, you will see that the eyeshadows are not that pearlized, it's shiny but the particles are very fine so it looks very classy.

I did a soft smokey eye and highlighted my lids to give the illusion of deep set eyes. That's my frustration! Hahaha!

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
PROS
  • Highly pigmented.
  • Smooth finish.
  • Glides on smoothly.
  • Long-lasting.
  • Easily blend-able.
  • Sweat proof.
  • Suits most skin tones.
  • Non-chalky finish.
  • Non-drying!
  • Shades can call be used together or on their own for a wash of color on the lids.

NEUTRAL
  • N/A

CONS
  • Some of the shades still have glitter particles.
  • Limited edition only. Might not be available anymore.

Retail Price: PhP 2,500
Purchased For: Gift from MAC Cosmetics
Will I re-purchase? Yes.
Will I recommend it? Yes.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★
