Making it last all night long...

by - Sunday, April 28, 2013

The thing with setting sprays is that, whether it is a 500 peso bottle or a 3 thousand peso bottle, they work just about the same. It still boils down to the type of your skin if it can hold makeup. I remember setting my face with just plain water, sprayed from an atomizer and it worked just as well. For the longest time I avoided setting sprays because I thought that making it last with water will do until I tried 2 of Urban Decay's setting sprays.

Urban Decay All Nighter and Urban Decay De Slick, PhP 1,200/bottle or $29.00

I bought these in Sephora in San Francisco early this year and it's only during this time around that I get to really use it and put it to the ultimate sweat and oil test. I stored this product in a cool, dry, air-tight container so it would keep, and it did! Now that the heat is on, oil is seeping out of your pores like no other, so you need defense systems.

Let's start with De Slick.

First of all, I love the packaging. It's classic Urban Decay and it's really so funky. I heard from my cousin that they recently changed the bottle so this makes it a collector's item. LOL.

It has a faint hairspray smell but very very faint. It isn't bothersome so don't worry about it.

If you use it the way it says in the box then this product will work great! I used to just set my makeup or my clients' makeup with this and the effects were just so-so. But when I tried applying it before and after makeup, it was just amazing!

Pro Tip: Spray on a flat foundation brush and spread it on your face concentrating on the T-Zone instead of just spritzing your face with the product. Apply as you would like a primer or foundation, then this product will work better.

It really keeps the T-Zone shine free and the makeup lasts longer. Although there seems to be a bit of shine build up about 5 or 6 hours into the makeup, but it's nothing alarming. I'd say I'll give this product a 3.5/5, but I don't think it's something that I'll keep re-purchasing over and over again.

Now let's talk about the All-nighter.

This is basically just the same as the De-Slick. It smells the same and it sets the makeup just the same. Although it doesn't keep the face matte long, you still feel a little bit matte after you have set your face. It does however make your makeup last longer into the night, but yet again, so does the De-Slick. Hmm... Marketing.

I would suggest applying this with a foundation brush as I have suggested earlier with the De Slick. It basically works as a primer for your primer, and a setting spray for your makeup. It will really waterproof-ify your makeup!

Will I re-purchase? Maybe I'll consider repurchasing De Slick more that I would with this one.

Have you tried this product before? What are your thoughts and tips on this product?

  1. Nice review! I have tried model in a bottle for sensitive skin and it didn't work. I get oily on my tzone and none that I have used were helpful. I'm really interested to try them but I doubt that these de slicks would work on me.

    1. You know what? You're right. I still think that makeup fixers like these still depend on the type of skin you have. I've tried Model in a Bottle too and it didn't work for me also. This one worked more for me than that one! :) Thanks so much for the insight :) I love hearing your comments and reactions :)
