I love both scents but they are really completely different for me. Fame smells of "sexy and danger", while Purr smells of "cute". I use Purr during the day because it's not as strong as Fame which I use only at night.
Although both scents are equally good, Lady Gaga takes the lead on niche marketing. The perfume is laced with Belladonna and Incense, both something you have never smelled (or heard) in a perfume before (well... that I know of). Both bottles (design wise) are not what you are used to seeing in the market today so they go neck and neck with that one.
Oh! Have I told you that Lady Gaga's perfume sprays a black liquid? But it dries clear so, phew! I wouldn't take a chance spraying it on white clothing though, just to be safe. I tried taking a photo of the sprayed liquid on my wrist but it disappears by the time I have reached for my camera.

DeleteI agree that both are great scents. Katy Perry's is certainly more of a sweet, daytime scent. I love it though!
