#liptalktuesdays

I got something in the mail last week, and I was delighted to have received something new from MAC Cosmetics, it's their new PatentPolish Lip Pencil! These lippies will be available in MAC Stores this May 2014.

MAC PatentPolish Lip Polish is a gloss that is composed of a unique blend of creamy emollients -a product that replenishes and softens the skin as you use it. A gloss that is not heavy or sticky on the lips. Perfect for this high humid weather we've been having.

Here's a product for women who love topping their lipsticks off with high shine gloss but can't stand the sticky, heavy feeling this summer!

This lip pencil reminds me of Clinique's Chubby Sticks, but with a more professional looking packaging.

As all tube lippies go, they're quite handy and really easy to use! I don't know what it is about chubby sticks that is very popular with brands now, to be frank, I don't really see the difference with a classic tube of lipstick packaging. But that's just me.

The product itself is rounded so you can easily glide it on your lips like a lip balm. No need to worry about how to maintain a pointed tip, I actually found this rounded tip easier to use than pointed ones, and you don't have to worry about accidentally breaking off the tip.

You twist the bottom to get the tube to extend the product when you are running short. Don't make the lipstick go out too long though, it might break when you glide it on your lips. Keep it short, dispense just enough product.

Swatching this shade on my hand, you can hardly see any pigment. It actually looks like skin and it has high gloss. It has a whisper of delicate beige color which is actually lovely and very dainty. I think this shade will suit tweens, an entry-level lipstick that they can use.

This is a photo of me using the product ALONE, with no lipstick underneath. I found it to look a little pale, but it did provide coverage on my lips in terms of color. The shade is really a pale nude-beige, that has medium to high shine!

Now here's a photo of me wearing PatentPolish on top of lipstick. It gave my lipstick a nice shine to it, and it didn't "disturb" the color when I applied the polish on top of it. I just love how balm-y it feels on the lips. The long wear lipstick underneath though is no longer transfer-proof because I topped it with the PatentPolish.

I saved the best news for last. These PatentPolish lippies are available in 14 shades. Actually, it's just 12 according to the press kit but I received 14 different images for the shades. I will get to the bottom of it and update this post!

I would love to try the other shades too! Top of my list to try next would be Grape Sultana and Pleasant!

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
Length of usage before review: 1 week

PROS
  • Very lightweight!
  • Non-sticky.
  • Lasts 5-6 hours.
  • No sharpener needed.
  • Handy and compact!
  • Wide array of shades available and to choose from.
  • There's shades available for either cool or warm skin tones.
  • Moisturizing. Non-drying formula.
  • Glides on like balm.
  • Act like a lip balm!
  • Glides on smoothly.
  • Colored shades are highly pigmented.
  • Perfect for tropical weather.
  • Won't bleed on your lips.
  • Pleasant fragrance!
  • Shades make skin tones look bright!
  • Easily accessible, easily available.
  • Two-in-one product for gals on the go, and quick touch-ups.
  • Can be mixed together with other shades to create your own personal, customized shades.

NEUTRAL
  • Some would find it pricey, some would find the price just right.

CONS
  • Non-transfer proof.
  • This shade (Innocent) makes one look washed out. Best to use a base as to not make it look too pale.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★
*If not for the nude shade which made me look washed out, this particular product would have scored a 5-star. Other colors may score a perfect rating.

Retail Price: PhP 1,120
Purchased For: Gift from MAC Philippines.
Will I re-purchase? Yes. Will try other shades!
Will I recommend it? Yes, definitely.

Here's a sneak preview of what else will be available for you at the MAC stores this May 2014!

Will post photos of this collection from the event soon! Watch out for it after May 16, 2014!

  1. I'll be really honest, Mac kinda scares me.Because I find it so high-end for my budget.Though it's an ultimate wishlist. :) It's nice that they also have theses "chubby sticks" too. :) Great review as always, I love your breakdown on pros/cons/neutral and your tips on how to make it work better perhaps. :)

Thanks! I love reading your posts! Have a blessed day!

    1. I know what you mean about the price. They're great for pro use for us makeup artists since we have to invest in quality makeup for our clients, but if you are not so much of a makeup wearer, a good lippie or two in classic colors will do :) Yes, MAC has a lot of great stuff that are added to my wish list as well! I'm so happy you like my reviews! Thank you so much for dropping by! Big hugs ♥

  2. Wow! That shade is super sexy on you. I love how it has a somewhat glossy finish, but doesn't look thick or sticky at all on the lips. It's a natural pucker-booster! :)

    1. Ay really, you like the shade? I didn't like the shade so much kasi I am more of a bold lippie kinda gal, but I guess for women who love nude lippies, this is their best bet ♥ I love the glossy finish it gives! Hindi exag sa lagkit! *wink*

  5. I def agree with you. What is all with the chubby sticks? Hmm.
I was planning to get one from NARS but I back-off because of the need to sharpen it. Twist-up sticks are much easier to have! And MAC is cheaper too (than NARS).

    1. NARS products are super nice but I have to agree with you, they are pretty pricey :-/ But their products are so worth it too! They have products that you can't find anywhere else ♥

  6. Aaaack why do they have to transfer?! I feel like MAC is late in the chubby sticks game pero on their part, panalo talaga colors nila all the time! I instantly got drawn to Grape Sultana as well but would love to swatch around all the shades muna. Why does MAC PH roll stuff out so sloooow huhu

    1. Anything that is not matte really is non-transfer proof unfortunately, maybe in the near future they will come up with gloss that doesn't transfer! I love MAC lippie colors too! ♥
