Look Chic in Seconds!

Last Saturday, my cousin got married and it was sort-of a much anticipated wedding for the family since it's been a while since someone got married.


So... I had the dress, the shoes, the clutch, the jewelry. I had the perfect nail peg, and makeup was the least of my worries. The only thing was, I didn't know what I was going to do with my hair. Let me tell you now that I can't do my own hair to save my life. Either I just do a sleek ponytail, a basic chignon, or leave it down and curl it. But I couldn't do any of those because I had short hair now (for those of you who do not know why I had to cut my hair short, you can read about it here: My Ombre Faux Paz)

I have had so many brides who have extensions put on them when I do weddings, but I never really considered them before because again, I know I wouldn't be able to put them on myself anyway.

Sathura Hair Extensions
I was desperate. I had to think of something to do with my hair that I could do on my own since I was doing the bride's makeup that day so I didn't know how much time I had to do my own hair and makeup (plus dressing up!)

Real hair extensions cost about 8k per strip. If I wanted a nice thick effect, I would need 3. No thanks. I  didn't want to spend that much on extensions that I know I wouldn't use again anyway.

I was in SM the day before the wedding and that's when I saw their wide selection of synthetic wigs and extensions. OMG, I have died and went to hairstyling heaven! I opted for a ponytail clip-on that gave this effect:


We looked great didn't we? Ahem ahem... Ok.. Back to the hair story. Let me tell you how easy it was! I just brought the extensions to the salon and had them put highlights on my roots to match the extensions and the result was flawless!

The synthetic extensions were actually nice and very natural looking. The down fall is that you can't style it with a curling iron or even a hair straightener. But they have lots of styles so you can collect the whole set if you wish.


I chose a thick long ponytail that was sleek and highlighted. My hair is neither jet black nor is it blonde so this is the best one I could get that was closest to my natural color. Oh, they didn't have plain brown either. (PhP 849.75)


The strands are like silk and they are permed so you don't have to worry about the curl going down by the end of the evening. It feels very soft, but honestly? They feel thick and heavy.

Ok, so here's a play by play on how I did my own hair that day.

STEP ONE:


Tie your hair in a tight low ponytail. Use hair spray to clean any baby hairs that are standing and smooth out with a fine comb.

STEP TWO:


Twist your ponytail and make a simple chignon. Secure with bobby pins and a hair net to keep all the strands in place. Spray with more hair spray to ensure it won't go loose later on.

STEP THREE:


Clamp the extensions just above the bun but not on it.

STEP FOUR:


Smooth out the extensions and make sure that the bun is not seen on all angles. Secure with a single bobby pin on both sides of the bun and cover the pin with the extensions.

Cleaning the extensions is easy, you can shampoo the hair with extra mild shampoo. I didn't wash the extensions yet because I only wore them just that one time, but I did by the extras to take care of it before storing them.


By the time I got home, the extensions got pretty tangled so I used the detangler spray (PhP 119.75). Spray a few inches away from the extensions and use the special brush (PhP 200+?). Not sure about the price because I threw the bag right away because I was too excited. LOL

Overall I think this is such a great product. Got short hair? Problem solved!

WARNING: This is no joke. Because of the weight of the extensions, they can give you a headache. But if you are not sensitive to those kinds of things, then I would definitely encourage you to try them! But for extreme migraineurs like me whose headaches are practically triggered by almost anything, then I wouldn't recommend it.
