Absolutely 'CHARM'-ed.

As a makeup artist, I am pretty OC when it comes to the makeup brushes I use for my clients. Top quality brushes from MAC, Shu Uemura, Bobbi Brown, etc. They are kept upright in a MAC brush tumbler so the brushes won't have creases and remain perfectly round at the edges, stored in a cool dry place, shampooed and dried under the sun on a drying rack twice a week, and thoroughly cleaned with an anti-bacterial brush cleaner ever night, after each use.


As for my own personal brushes though, I never really cared which ones I get my hands on. When I travel, I bring with me travel sized brushes (that are waaaay too short handled that you're like "what the...?!") that you can buy cheap at the department stores that are stored in those little plastic bags the size of a credit card holder. I would then buy other short handled brushes but are very stiff and some are annoyingly soft. Most of these generic, mass-produced brushes don't come in actual travel bags so I just make do.


This is how I roll: I love last minute packing when I travel either for work or for vacation so I usually just dump my personal brushes in my cosmetics case together with my personal makeup. I bring about 20 different brushes incase the hairs fall off (which is often), and the brushes are not versatile so I wouldn't know which ones I would need. When I get to my destination, the hair of my brushes would look wrinkled and brittle, soiled from makeup debris that would escape the containers, so I still end up washing them and drying the hairs with a hair dryer.

Until recently.

CHARM Makeup Brushes sent me their limited edition "SONIA" travel size set and I just fell in love with it.


With it's sleek and chic animal print case is made from easy to clean material which I had the urge to hold it against my chest and hug. It was love at first sight. (Yes, I get a kick out of beautiful cosmetics)

A CHARMing zipper pull that is sturdy. The zipper itself is smooth that you won't struggle with it trying to open the case (Oooooh... I hate that!)

Attached with a wrist strap that can easily be carried for on-location touch-ups (for makeup artists like me). And it can actually pass for an evening clutch (Hmmm... Ideas, ideas...)


Separate pockets for the lip & eye brushes...

... And a separate cozy home for the face brushes.

Here's what's inside the travel case. 14 versatile brushes that can be used for different ways. I won't get into detail on each one because one brush doesn't have just one specific purpose. Go crazy! Get creative!

I do love that the kit contains 2 synthetic brushes for concealing. I don't use foundation brushes for applying foundation, so I use these 2 for concealing. Absolutely perfect! The bristles are soft but firm, and they don't leave streak marks (which leaves me to mutter a soft "tsk" to myself).

Each brush handle stamped with their logo in gold. I am really digging this black and gold theme. They look pro (but not as boring), and at the same, very stylish.

Here's a closer look of their eye and lip brushes. As you can see, no repeats of the same brush (the cheap sets you find in drugstores I've seen have 3 of the same kind of one of the brushes). The shape of the heads are versatile! An example would be the "supposed" eyebrow brush. I use this for applying eyeliner as well and sometimes, applying lipstick, specially bright red lipstick which requires a very precise application.

Now the face brushes. Aren't they to die for? I use the stipple brush a lot of ways. From foundation, to powder, to powder or cream blush!

The hairs are nice and soft, but not one of those "OMG this is so soft that no product is sticking to them and the product is going all over the place" type of deal. It's silky to the touch, but the brushes stay "up" when they are stored upright.

But the lip brush has got to be my favorite. It comes with a cover so the kit stays clean when you've already used it. The color is just so beautiful that I get so excited when I bring it with me when I go out at night. Lipstick won't get into the lining of your purse, cosmetics case or clutch. You can just touch up, cover the brush, and go! No more spending the extra time wiping the brush with a tissue and still wrapping the brush with the tissue so product won't mess things up inside your bag.

The bigger brushes come with plastic covers to protect the hairs so they wouldn't go out of shape. The will also keep the interior of the travel case nice and clean. Not to mention, this protective cover will keep the hairs from getting caught in the zipper (Don't you just hate that?!).

For extra precaution and hygienic purposes, the kit comes with a clear plastic flap that you can flip over the brushes.


I recently had the pleasure of test-driving it when I had to go to Palawan to do a wedding. I only had 1 night there, and my ticket was "Travel Lite" which meant I didn't have the space to check in my bags. So I had to resize my professional kit, bringing only the top 15 products that I use for brides and this set of brushes.


I was able to create quite a number of different looks using just this travel kit. I love it to bits. Now, when I go on shoots, I just bring my train case, and fit this travel case to it. This travel case just saved me from damaging my back further from carrying to many stuff. Although I am arguing with myself whether I should keep using this for my professional use or keep it for myself... Or better yet, just buy another one? Hmm...

    I bought my very best in perfect quality brush I think before 12 years and this brush is still in condition like new. Of course I take care of it and washes it regularly but the quality is not to compare with the quality of the cheap brushes from the drugstore ...
