#aboutface #productreviews

So, Origins finally opened in Manila and I had the pleasure of attending the store event at the SM Makati last September 3. For those of you who have not heard of the brand, Origins is a brand that aims to create high-performance natural skincare that is powered by nature and proven by science. They use potent plants, organic ingredients and 100% natural essential oils. And their long-standing commitment to protect the planet, its resources and all those who populate it is reaffirmed by our earth and animal friendly practices (from Origins website). So, they're cruelty free and all-natural!

I have been hearing about Origins for a long time (since I was in grade school) but I have not had the pleasure of having to try any of their products before. Even though it was what you should be buying when you go to the US. I think it was partly because I did now know where to start. They have a wide variety of products and I can never tell where to start if I were to buy their products.

So at the event, they gifted me with this set to try and I think it's a pretty fantastic line to start with (even when you are in your early twenties): it's a set that promises to renew the skin, which is perfect because I have been neglecting my skin care lately so starting with a mask and a serum is always a good idea.

Origins Original Skin Renewal Mask, PhP 2,200 |  Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask, PhP 1,500
For some weird reason, I can't seem to properly photograph the light pink packaging of these products so they're coming all faded and stuff! The photos do not do justice to how lovely they actually look!

Origins describes this product as:

Original Skin

  • Best for all skin types
The Original Skin Renewal Serum can be used both in the morning and in the evening to help de-stress the skin, smooth out roughness, delete dullness and minimise pores -and in Manila, those are all factors we have to worry about with our weather and all the pollution we have!

What initially attracted me to the product was the idea of it being aimed for girls in their 20s. I think girls should start their skin care in their early twenties or even younger. I started using moisturizer and sunblock when I was 14, and I have been obsessed with skin care ever since.
Girls in their 20-somethings will fall in love with this because those are the age-range that they fall into a skin care vortex where they suffer from acne and their age actually start showing early signs of ageing. What I also love about Origins is that their skin care can be used by girls in their teens because not a lot of brands really focus on skin care for that age.
I really enjoyed using this serum, I’m half-way through the bottle because I use it in the morning and in the evening. It's even better when used with the mask! It has a very light consistency so works on all skin types. It has a nice smooth, gel-like consistency which makes it work well under makeup too because it doesn't take a long time to get absorbed by the skin. It smells and feels fresh on the skin so humidity won't be a problem because you won't feel sticky. You can instantly feel the change of texture on the skin and the smoothness it gives, which is great for someone who’s a bit impatient when it comes to skin care like me.

Original Skin

Retexturizing mask with Rose Clay

Glow big with our innovative 2-in-1mask! Made with Mediterranean Rose Clay, Canadian Willow Herb and exfoliating Jojoba beads, it helps gently deep clean while refining skin’s texture. Pores appear to vanish. Clarity is restored. Glow is instant.

I am a mask junkie: whether it be a sheet mask, clay mask, whatever mask, I love them all. I think that they are the one product that you can put on your face that give you instant results but the effects are long lasting. This mask by Origins is a bit thinner in texture than most clay masks which makes it easy to apply a thin layer if you don't like to apply it thick.
Another added plus for this product is that it contains exfoliating beads to help soften skin. It actually reminds me of GlamGlow's YouthMud because of its exfoliating powder and the tingling feeling you get when you apply it. Although the tingling is not as strong as GlamGlow, it does have a bit of that slight sting feeling on your skin.
It's pink! Yes, emphasis on the pink because I think that's just too cute and girly, and looks a bit like calamine lotion when you apply it but without the sticky and nasty smell of it. This mask smells good, but I am not sure if this product has fragrance or it comes from the natural extracts and essential oils, so it's best for people with sensitive skin to proceed with caution. Best to ask the people from Origins.
I have been using this mask twice a week for three weeks and I can say with confidence that my skin felt softer and smoother after each time I use it. It's very instant and the effects are long lasting too. The added jojoba that it contains kept the product from being too drying on the skin. Price wise I would say that it's not at all bad. I would definitely be willing to spend PhP 1500 for this product because it's worth every penny. Not only did it work superbly on my skin, but it's also economical. Just a little bit of product goes a really long way so this 100ml tube will last a long time.

So today, while I had some "me" time, I was able to take pics while I did my mask. I do my mud masks twice a week and that's every Tuesday and Friday.
Without washing my face, I applied a single layer of mask on my skin. Not too thick, and not too thin either. I just make sure that my skin is completely covered with mask. Immediately after applying, you will feel that it tingles, sort of like "mahapdi" on your face but it's not actually stinging your skin, it's "detoxifying" your skin, drawing toxins out of your pores.
Just shy of 5 minutes later, the mask dries up. I did however leave the mask on for a good 20 minutes so that my skin can absorb the minerals and vitamins that this mask has. After it dries up, it actually cracks when you do a scrunch thing with your face. I love doing this with my mud masks I don't know why! I love seeing it crack. LOL
I then wet my skin with luke warm water from the sink, and start to rub the mask on my skin in circular motions so that it exfoliates my skin, then I rinse it off. The mask doesn't dry your skin and your skin won't feel like it would tear from over-stretching after using it. My skin felt cool to the touch and my skin looks instantly brighter. My skin looks well rested, if that's even a thing.

My pores look clearer and smaller -tighter. Looks like dirt was really drawn out of my pores up to the surface and that's really a good thing since the pores on my nose look enlarged. Redness was reduced and no breakouts!
In conclusion, if you have extremely oily skin and is prone to acne and breakouts -and is looking for an acne-busting, miracle worker of a face mask, then this is not for you. It does not do much for breakouts (but may aid in drying them up though), but this mask makes your skin even-toned and smooth and hydrated. It even shrinks enlarged pores gently and removes all the dead skin cells off your face... The best thing? It evens out your complexion.

It won't unclog very clogged pores though unlike other masks that I have tried that contain activated charcoal. This mask is definitely on the gentle side in my opinion, and would better suit combination to oily and even drier complexions. I would recommend this mask to women with mature skin because this mask offers a bit of a tightening and smoothing effect for fine lines and wrinkles as well.

There are tiny little beads in this mask that offer a little bit of exfoliation as well which you can do before washing it off, which feels very nice on your skin. I would definitely repurchase this mask because of how gentle and yet effective it is at eliminating the redness on my skin and evening out my skin tone while gently unclogging my pores.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★
