Let's Iron Things Out

#tressviernes

I am one of those women who is gifted with big, unruly, wavy hair. Having silky smooth straight hair has been my frustration, but I have grown a bit fond of my natural hair as I grew older. I figured, I can straighten my hair in the hair salon anyway by having it blown dried straight. I can't do my own hair to save my life.

But going to the salon all the time when I have some event to go to has sort of been an inconvenience because it eats up a lot of my time. That's when I told myself I had to go and teach myself how to straighten my own hair once and for all.

This is me (excuse the no makeup look, I wanted to keep the focus on my hair for this post). I just washed my hair with shampoo and loaded up on conditioner. I learned from my hairstylist that skipping the conditioner will add volume and can help with the longevity of curls, so I used tons of conditioner so that my hair can be "weighed down". Of course, these are just guesses.

Isn't my hair nice and poofy? LOL. Anyway, this is how my hair looks naturally after it has been air dried.

So anyway, the other day, I was on a quest. Operation: Hair straightener and flat iron products. I hopped from shelf to shelf looking for the perfect ironing spray. That's when I decided to get FX Special Effects Heat Memory Flat Iron Spray. I thought about their curling spray and it just worked wonders, so I guessed that their flat iron product will work just as great.

I love the packaging of their range of products. They're like Bed Head but more affordable. This baby costs PhP 299.00 (roughly $7.30). The spray itself is not sticky at all unlike  mousse or hair spray when they have contact with heat. It smells great and it doesn't leave my hair with that burnt product smell.

Spray on damp hair and straighten your hair in small sections. I told myself I will be patient, I am usually always in a rush in doing my own hair.

I ironed my hair at the crown this way so that this part will have a little bit of volume.

At the ends, I ironed it going inward so that it won't look too straight like a broom. My hair already looks like a broom because of all the hair dying, so having the ends curled a little bit will disguise the dryness a bit.

The end result?

Not bad I think, considering this was the first time I attempted to straighten my own hair. I love that my ombre hair can now clearly be seen with my hair straightened like this! I was happy that when my hair dried completely after ironing, my hair was soft and shiny. In the photo my hair was still a bit damp.

FX Special Effects Heat Memory Flat Iron Spray is available in Landmark Department store in Makati.

So, what do you girls think? Be kind. Hahaha!

  8. ooh lala! Your 1st attempt sure is successful. I barely noticed that you had ombre hair on. Good thing you found out about that hair product. On the other hand, I adore your big, natural hair curls! :) I only have wavy kind of hair but I've always liked to have big natural curls at the end of my hair strands. :D

    1. Thank you! I wish I can pull off the curls at the ends of my hair. It's hot and humid in my country so leaving it down will only weigh the curls down :( Booo! Thank you so much for dropping by!
