#eyespymondays

Revlon recently launched a new mascara for Spring of 2014, and that is the Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara. This all new formula promises both length and volume with a lacquer film technology that provides intense color to the lashes and a high shine according to Revlon.

Revlon's promise:

Revlon's Waterproof Bold Lacquer by Grow Luscious offers a length & volume waterproof mascara; the ultimate black, bold definition.
  • The Ultimate Black, Bold Definition.
  • For volume & length to the nth degree.
  • Revlon's first mascara with only high-shine black fibers vs. traditional mascara (dull shades of grey).
  • Emma Stone shines in Bold Lacquer Mascara.
  • Available in Waterproof.

More about this mascara after the break!

Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara, to be quite honest, is one of those very confusing mascaras that promises so much but delivers so very little. I spent quite some time reading the packaging looking at what it would do to my lashes but when I applied it on, well, let's just say I expected so much more.
Ingredients: Isododecane, Water, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Ethylene/VA Copolymer, Paraffin, Cera Carnauba ((Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax) Cire de carnauba), Quaternium-90 Bentonite, Tall Oil Glycerides, Cera Alba ((Beeswax) Cire d abeille), Behenyl Methacrylate/t-Butyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Lysine HCl, Leucine, Alanine, Panthenol, Phytantriol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein/PVP Crosspolymer, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Aminomethyl Propanediol, Propylene Carbonate, Butylene Glycol, Nylon-6, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Caprylyl Glycol.
May Contain: Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Black 2 (CI 77266).
The Bold Lacquer says that this is a pigment-rich mascara that will provide thin lashes some really black-ness, glossy and somewhat smoky look to the lashes. At least that's what I got from what they said in their ads and in their packaging when they say "BOLD" and "LACQUER".

There wasn't any shiny effect nor does it even give a slight wet look to the lashes. To be quite honest, it gives the same effect as any regular mascara except for the fibers maybe which not all mascaras offer. Pigment is ok in terms of giving a more black finish, but I wouldn't exactly call it BOLD.
I like mascaras that promises volume and length since I long for lashes that look like spider legs! Ha! In all seriousness though, I want to have lashes like my friend and beauty blogger's lashes Julia Arenas of BlessMyBag.com. So anyway, this mascara promises volume and length and while it does ok with length I still don't feel like my lashes looked fuller even after three coats of mascara. The effect I was expecting was something that of Covergirl's LashBlast Volume Mascara or Maybelline's HyperCurl Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara.

The brush is a simple straight bushy brush with no curves, that makes it easy to "pull" the lashes up and out. It does somewhat hold the lashes up, but the curl is not really there (I will show you what I mean later),. Since this mascara has a lighter texture that isn’t goopey or sticky, it keeps the hairs up. To be fair, it didn’t smear or flake on my dry eyes and it removes super easily at the end of the night with eye makeup remover unlike some waterproof mascaras.
The thing I found weird about Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara is that contrary to its name, it just gives the lashes a soft, fluttery, natural look with a bit of length. I was really expecting more.
I would write up Revlon Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara as just another mascara that promises too much but delivers very little, but then again, I find myself reaching out for this mascara a lot lately. I guess I like the fact that it has a very light consistency on my lashes which doesn't feel heavy sometime during the day that's why I like it.

I definitely wouldn’t call it a complete miss because this formula may work to those who want a natural looking fluttery lash look. I think they should just change the name to something more flirty and girly than something so bold and dramatic.
This is what I mean about holding the curls up. I curled my lashes with a lash curler and it was curved. But when I applied the mascara, they stayed up but the curve disappeared but they stayed up anyway. I just don't like how it looks so stick straight like that. I still like the lashes looking naturally curved and curled.
On my face: Kate Tokyo Remake Liquid for Cover, topped with Covergirl TruBlend Minerals Mineral Pressed Powder in Translucent LightSNOE What’s Up Brow Brow Lash Powder for my brows, and then I contoured and highlighted my face with Happy Skin Feeling Sculptacular Face Contour Kit, for my cheeks, I used Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Amp'd Up Apple topped with Clinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop for a warmer hue, Canmake Nose Shadow Powder for my nose contouring, and for the icing on the cake, for my lips I used Happy Skin Shut Up and Kiss Me Lippie in Red Carpet.

So girls, have you tried this? What were your results with it?

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
Length of usage before review: Everyday for the past week

PROS
  • Does not clump the lashes. Yes, to be fair with this mascara.
  • Lightweight on the lashes! Feathery light-feel without the sticky feel.
  • Black formula.
  • Gives good length on the lashes.
  • Readily available in all Revlon counters.
  • Waterproof.
  • Long-lasting.
  • Tear and sweat-proof.
  • Short bristles with straight wand of the brush make it easier to coat from roots to the tips of your lashes.
  • Easy to hold and control the wand handle.
  • Does not feel heavy on the lids even if you apply a lot of layers. You can layer it by the way, and it won't give you that clumpy gooky mascara look!
  • Leaves the hair up but doesn't really look "curled"
  • Won't weigh the hairs down.
  • Fluttery, feathery, flirty look on the lashes.
  • Makes the hairs of the lashes look very black.

NEUTRAL
  • A bit pricey.
  • No glossy look as advertised.

CONS
  • If fibers gets into the eyes, it hurts and stings the eyes.
  • Does not hold the curl.

  1. I haven't tried this one or any fiber type mascara, I would like to finish my current mascara first before buying a new one. But I can consider this one as an okay mascara since it's waterproof & doesn't clump. Hihi
