Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel and Nose Pack Package

#aboutface

One of the worse things that can happen to anyone's facial skin is to be infested with blackheads! Yes, I said infested because blackheads is an infestation in my opinion. I feel that having blackheads feels like a house being overrun or invaded by pests or parasites. Your skin may look fresh from a far but when you look closely, it looks unattractive and makes your pores look extremely huge that no amount of makeup can cover up. I just don't like it.

There was a time in the past when blackheads can only be removed by going to the derma. But now, there are so much products in the market that you can purchase that get rid of blackheads FAST at home, if not all, at least most! And with regular use, in time they will eventually go away. YAY!
Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel and Egg Pore Nose Pack Package
Although having the blackheads and whiteheads removed from the root at the derma is still best, these products are more of a quick fix if you need to clean your pores ASAP if you haven't got the time to sit down at the derma's chair yet.

Do you have a nasty blackhead-infestation? Read on!

I came across these products while I was waiting for my car to arrive to pick me up in Watson's in Megamall. I was browsing through the Tony Moly counter and truth be told, it was the packaging that caught my eye. Hehehe... It was just too cute to ignore.
Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel, PhP 528 PhP 578
I bought it at PhP 528 about 6 months ago, but according to their Philippine website, they are being sold now for PhP 578 for the same volume. I have been using this about twice a month for 6 months and I must tell you that I still have a lot of it left. I even got my husband to join the nose massaging craze and he likes it now. Of course, I have to remind him to use it, but he still does it with no side remarks!
I just love the packaging! Although, I don't like the fact that this brand does not provide english instructions so you don't know what it really is made of. You know how much this is an issue for me. This is what I don't like about Tony Moly's packaging. I hope that they will provide English ingredients lists or other instructions in English so that we can better understand the product.
Careful when trying to remove the protective cover. It causes the product to spill! I actually wasted quite a lot of product just trying to remove and returning the protective cover. In the end, I also ended up throwing the yellow protective cover because it keeps making me spill product on the sides.
This is what is taken from the Tony Moly Website:
"Clear oil gel that melts out the blackheads Oil gel type that does not drip Skin smoothing effects (Magic Capsule) Sebum removal effects (Scrub – Charcoal powder) Egg White / Magic Capsule / camellia extract / charcoal powder Recommended for: People with blackheads and whiteheads People with a lot of keratin on the nose. Directions: Take sufficient amount, massage 3~5 minutes around the nose, and wash off with lukewarm water when the oil changes from clear to white."
I love how it looks like a Chinese egg-drop soup. Hehehe... Don't you think so? Or maybe I'm just hungry... again.
Here's how to use it: After cleansing, apply an adequate amount of Egg Pore Blackhead Out Oil Gel onto T-zone area and gently massage your T-Zone area for 3~5min by massaging in concentric circles. After a few minutes, you will notice that the transparent oil gel turns into a white color as it combines with sebum. When it does, it's time to wash it off with luke warm water. I love using this gel more than twice a month on its own because I don't want to over cleanse or over use it (since I do not know if it is safe to use often -blame it on the  non-english packaging!), but today I used it before the pore strips for this review. Good thing I had some left for review too!

I took photos before using it and it's only now that I got to make a review. So, here is what my pores looked like before using the Blackhead Out Oil Gel after not using it for about 2 months!
BEFORE
Massaging the Oil Gel for about 3 minutes, the transparent gel bound with my sebum and true enough it turned a translucent white. I love that it sort of smells like cookie batter mixed with egg -sort of like lemon squares actually. I can't really explain it but it smells good.
After washing it off with warm water, this is how my pores looked like. It didn't clear out all of the blackheads but the smaller ones (probably the more shallow ones) were removed. But the bigger ones like the one on the left side remained intact. Let's see if it'll get removed by the pore strips.
AFTER
 EGG PORE NOSE PACK PACKAGE

There are a lot of pore strips now in the market that are equally effective and are much cheaper. So this one from Tony Moly is a little bit of an investment. Priced at PhP 228 for 7 pore strips (1 pack), it comes out to about PhP 32.50 per strip. But if you buy them individually at the Tony Moly counters, they sell it more expensively at PhP 38 per piece.
Tony Moly Egg Pore Nose Pack Package 7 strips, PhP 228
According to the Tony Moly website:
"Adhere to tighten pore, charcoal ingredient adds potent adherence effect, albutin ingredient effectively astringent enlarged pores, closely apply on nose skin."
The Egg Pore Nose Pack comes in a typical pore-strip easy-tear packaging. It's quite thin so be sure to store it in a cool dry place where it won't get crumpled.
Again, the pore strip is pretty standard. It doesn't have a unique shape that makes it extra special. In the end, it's a matter of choosing which brand works for you the best.

Directions from Tony Moly website:
  1. After cleansing, apply enough water on nose. (if the moisture is insufficient, less adherence. Do not apply water on product). For dry skin, apply toner on face except nose area and apply water on nose.
  2. With dry hands, peel off the film from the product, and put the silky/sticky side on nose area.
  3. Gently press from the upper nose towards the end of the nose to remove the bubble and completely dry.
  4. Leave for 10~15mins until completely dry, take off from the edge side and gently wipe with toner.
I know the website says not to wet the strip but what I like to do is wet my nose and apply water on top of the strip to adhere it real well! I pat water only on top of the strip to completely soak the product and once it's adhered well on the skin, I use a dry towel to pat dry the strip. I like that it fits the nose real well!

It only takes 5 minutes for the strip to completely dry but I left it on for a good 15 minutes to be sure it's dry underneath the strip. And oh! Make sure that you really stick the strip on the sides of your nose real well.
As all pore strips go, it can get quite painful to remove the strips specially if you've had it on for more than 15 minutes so pep it off gently and fast if you can. Peel the strip off and you'll see some white heads and a few blackheads sticking on the strip! I love looking at it after peeling it off. Hehehe...
My bigger blackheads were not completely removed but some of it were lifted. Like the big one on the left side, the size was reduced to half. I guess I have to use these products more often to completely clean my pores.
AFTER
My nose feels very clean after using the Blackhead Out Oil Gel and the Nose Pack, but I am sure that you don't have to use them together each time for it to work. I wouldn't use these products as often as those beauty associates recommends though because some websites would say that drugstore pore strips can do more damage on your pores than good. I will "investigate" on this and get back to you!

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
Length of usage before review: both products on and off for 6 months

PROS
  • Removes most of your blackheads and whiteheads with each use.
  • With prolonged use, it can keep your pores clear.
  • The Blackhead Out Oil Gel has a pleasant smell.
  • Both are very easy to use.
  • Oil Gel is affordable, a little goes a long way so it's economical!
  • The oil gel is said to reduce/minimize sebum production, but does not over dry the skin.
  • Both products are very easy and convenient to use.
  • Easily available in Tony Moly stores and counters.

NEUTRAL
  • The Nose Pack is like any other pore strip that works equally well.
  • Some people would say that using pore products at home would make your pores look bigger, so consult with a derma before buying to be sure.
  • Nose Pack strips are a little pricey. (This is neutral because some people may find it cheap as well).

CONS
  • No English instructions! No ingredients list printed in English.
  • I am still oily on my nose area even with regular use of the Blackhead Out oil gel.

MY OVERALL RATING FOR BOTH PRODUCTS: ★★★

  2. This has come at a good time. I am currently on the hunt for a good nose blackhead removing product that is not a nose strip. Will definitely check this one out. Are there any other brand nose strips that are good but are cheaper?

  3. Always an issue about korean makeups, their english intructions. I always see these cute eggs from Tony Moly but do not have any idea about the content inside. I thought it looked like a lotion. It's amazing based on your photos that the black heads really cleared except the smaller ones.

  4. I think I would still prefer pore strips because after peeling the strips, I would love to see the white heads attached to it to see if the product is really effective. This one is a bit expensive for my budget.
