Blushing with MAC Riri Blush Duo in Hibiscus Kiss (Product Review and Swatches)
#faceitwednesdays #aboutface
This is my first MAC blush duo so I am very excited to try it on! I am a fan of blush that has two shades combined no matter what brand. I think that it is the perfect solution to solve the "which blush would suit my skin tone best?" dilemma. I love that blush duos look good either for fair skinned women or morenas.
These cosmetic companies combine two shades together: warm and cool tone. Usually these duos combine a bronzer that is complemented with a cool toned blush that blend well together, and the result will just be flawless.

Before we begin, I'd like to ask, how do you like my new product shots? I built a light box (emphasis on the 'built') out of balikbayan box and tracing paper and I think the overall finish is wonderful! Now I can take product shots at night! I'll show you guys one time how it looks. Amazing!
When you look at the product, it may seem that the bronzer and the blush is too dark and may be too pigmented. I was kind-of afraid of it too thinking that the blush may be to harsh when you accidentally use too much.
First on the list? Packaging. The compact is just gorgeous! I love the reflective compact in rose gold. It's uber chic and girly!
As it turned out, when I swatched the two shades, they're very very sheen! I love that it just gives a hint of color even if I really rubbed the product with my middle finger. Check out that gorgeous color! When you swirl you brush around the pan and combine the two shades together, you will create a wonderful subtle "sun kissed" look that is just GORGEOUS! Definitely perfect for summer (but is not limited to)!
You can see the satin finish blush in a coral pink shade on the left with a hint of shimmer, and the matte bronzer below it. The bronzer is very sheer so you I had to build it to make it more visible in photos.
Instead of using the blush separately, I used a rounded flat tip blush brush and swirled it around the pan and combined the two shades together. And then I used the blush to contour my cheekbones and just added a hint of the pink blush on the apples of my cheeks to make it pop!
ON MY FACE: Happy Skin Don't Get Mad Get Even Hydrating Liquid Foundation in Soft Beige, Maybelline Clear Smooth All in One Shine Free Cake Powder in Natural, K-Palette Lasting 2Way Eyebrow, Mac Riri Blush Duo in Hibiscus Kiss, Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing Neo Mascara, Maybelline Lip Polish in Glam 2
HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
PROS
- Silky texture makes blushing look natural!
- Not chalky.
- Blends very well to any skin color and tone.
- Gives a subtle, natural sun kissed look.
- Compact.
- Color is build-able. You don't need to worry about putting on too much.
- Very subtle shimmer that highlights your cheeks/cheekbones only on the right places.
- Versatile! May be used on either fair skinned women or morenas.
- Matches most lipstick shades.
NEUTRAL (Not that important)
- Fragrance free.
- No brush included.
- Top layer is a little bit hard to penetrate to get to the chewy center *wink* (the more pigmented part)
CONS
- Pricey.
- Special collection during the holidays, so may not be available in stores anymore.
HOW I APPLIED IT: Using a cylindrical flat tip blush brush from Lancome, I lightly swirled the tip of the brush on the pan and tapped off the excess. On my cheeks, I made my cheekbones come out by doing the model face and applied directly on them. Use circular strokes so you will not be left with a blush streak. Then smile to make the apples of your cheeks pop out and swipe the coral pink blush on the apples. I used 2 layers of blush to make it more obvious in photos, but still looks very natural in person. I blended the shades together to produce a very natural, harmonious looking flush on my cheeks!
Will I re-purchase? Yes.
Will I recommend it? Yes.
MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★
