#tressviernes

I am a strong believer that one should not shampoo their hair everyday to: #1 - preserve the oil in your scalp, #2 - as to not over dry the hair cuticles, and #3 - washing my hair can be a lot of work! Plus, the more my hair frizzes when I do shampoo everyday. The issue of whether or not to shampoo everyday is entirely up to you and your scalp but really it depends on how fast your scalp produces oil.

According to my dermatologist, "The longer, thicker, curlier, and more processed your hair, the longer it can go between washes. This is because the oils from the scalp do not travel down the hair shaft as quickly, so the hair tends to be dry and requires less frequent shampooing", thank goodness too because I can't stand leaving the house with wet hair so blowdrying my tresses after a shower is a must.
The Balm En Root Dry Shampoo 160ml, PhP 745.00
I have heard from the hairstylist I get to work with a lot rave about dry shampoos and I have always been a bit skeptic. I even bought a couple for him when I traveled to the States. For some reason, I thought they were just baby powder with fragrance and it just leaves your hair a feel of tackiness and gives a white hue on your hair making it look real dull.

Until I got to try The Balm's Dry Shampoo. This is the first time I have ever tried this so I was very impressed.
First, I love The Balm's packaging. I think it's very vintage chic and they're very fun to use! I love the way they name their products too!

The can looks like a mousse bottle or maybe even a hairspray bottle (which sprays continuously like hairspray too).

Now that's what I love to hear: Safe for color-treated hair! Some hair products I have tried in the past are not safe for color-treated hair and fades my dye faster and makes my colored hair look dull, flat and lifeless.

Ok you paraben-phobes! This one's Paraben free! When you use a shampoo that contains sulfates, you strip away more than dirt and excess oil from your scalp. You also remove natural oils that your hair needs to stay healthy. The absence of natural oils can cause dry and itchy scalp, dandruff and frizzy hair. The same goes for other hair products.

The spray nozzle is very easy to press down. You can easily squeeze it so you have to be careful too.

Their promise: Revive your hair between washes -yes, I believe they lived up to their promise!

What got me curious is the En Root Hair Mascara! Hehehe... I think I'll try that next. Here is the En Root Dry Shampoo Ingredients List.

This is my hair only 2 days without washing it. But I got a massage last night so oil got to my hair and now it's greasy-rific! Perfect time to test this dry shampoo.

I started with the middle part and sprayed along the part. I then moved on to my left side and then the right side, spraying down the part after each part (wait, what?)

I know, I know, my hair badly needs a root touch-up. According to the directions printed, you should concentrate on the roots. So that's what I did.

You can see that my hair is lifted and there is no white residue on my scalp and hair.

My hair definitely didn't feel greasy anymore but it preserved the shine to my hair.

Ugh... I really really need to retouch my roots.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:

PROS
  • My hair was stylable after using this dry shampoo. The curl stayed intact until the end of the day too.
  • Lifted my flat, lifeless, oily hair.
  • Non-itchy.
  • When the spray dries, it doesn't produce any white residues.
  • Easy to use.
  • Spray trigger is easy to press.
  • Sprays continuously like hairspray.
  • Leaves your hair shiny, not matte and lifeless.
  • Absorbs oil fast!
  • Gives the hair a smell of just-washed hair.
  • Hair feels light and bouncy.
  • Your hair can easily be combed even after it sets. Hair does not feel sticky or clumpy.
  • Quick to use for gals on the go!

NEUTRAL
  • Smells a bit like strawberries, but some people find it a bit strong.
  • It does revive your hair between washes! But I felt the need to shampoo my hair the following day after using dry shampoo.
  • Some may find this a bit pricey.

CONS
  • Available only in Beauty Bar stores.
  • Because of the high pressure, you end up wasting product because they don't all go to your hair when your spray.

HOW I USED IT: I sectioned my hair and sprayed at the hair part in pulses (do not spray continuously so you can be sure you are spraying in the right place). After all the parts have been sprayed with product I massaged it to my scalp and brushed my hair to distribute the dry shampoo to my tips. Then I bent over and brushed my hair over, and then flipped my hair to get more bounce and volume.

Will I re-purchase? Maybe. Nice to have for "emergencies".
Will I recommend it? Yes.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★★★☆.5
