Believe it or not, this is only the second velvet lipstick I own. I just felt that velvet lipsticks are not for summer so I didn't bother to look around for one that would be worth wearing in the heat. Until VMV Hypoallergenics sent me their velvet -matte lippie and I just loved the color. And I adore the name: Bikini Machine.

I love the sleek packaging. It's simple but has elegance written all over it. I love classy packaging. Well, that or cute. Ha!
The product doesn't have a strong smell which is good since they're supposed to be hypoallergenic, although I do like some lipsticks that have mild fragrances. MILD and sometimes being the operative words.

At first glance, I thought that it was a dupe of MAC's Up the Amp, but when put side by side, you can see that VMV is more pastel. Hmm, I adore pastels.
The formula is a little bit too dry (but NOT drying) so it doesn't glide on as smoothly as I wanted it to (even though the box says matte, I still expected it to be creamier). You have to pile on the color to achieve the maximum color intensity. Well, a minor bump for a superb shade, so nothing a little balm wouldn't fix.
Bikini Machine really does look velvet-y when swatched side by side with a creamy lipstick, so that department gets an A. My lips didn't itch, flake, or crack which is always a good sign. Some products claim to be hypoallergenic but its all LIES. Staying power is good too, had to retouch after about 3 hours or wear.

The verdict? 2 thumbs up! I would definitely purchase a different shade or formula to try!

The color looks gorgeous when paired with a lip gloss that is more or less the same shade. It really brings out the color.
