The Classic Cosmetic Tools Go Electronic!

#toolsofthetrade

The time has come that classic cosmetics tools such as the eyelash curler and the eyebrow shaver is being replaced with ones with batteries! Although heated lash curlers have been around for quite sometime, and I'm not even sure about electric brow shavers, but hey, they're here! And available from local brand Nichido, nonetheless!

Heated Eyelash Curler (PhP 268.00) / Electric Lady Shaver (PhP 398.00)

I was in SM Makati yesterday just to buy Bifesta Cleansing Lotion for my mom but then I came across these 2 electronic tools at Nichido (I should really go to cosmetic department stores next time with horse's blinders to keep my focus).

Their bright pink packaging definitely caught my eye! Back in 2006 I owned a heated lash curler but one that looks like a traditional plastic lash curler that heats up the silicone. That didn't work out too much for me so I threw it away after a while and went back to using my Shu Uemura lash curler.

You can find a lot of reviews (and debates) online about heated lash curlers and while some love it, some hate it too. I haven't decided on which side I am on yet so I am going to give this one another try. Why not?

Packaging come with simple to follow instructions on how to use them.

It comes in a standard-sized heated lash curler, basically the size of a mascara tube. Very light and handy even when fitted with a AAA battery.

You simply pull down the lower cover of the curler to insert batteries.

Insert 1 (one) AAA battery behind the wand.

Switch the curler on and the light comes on. That indicates that the curler is turned on. The coils are really colored red so don't worry about the curler heating too much that it might burn you. It doesn't over heat.

"Comb" your lashes moving upwards as you would a regular mascara wand but hold the heated curler on your lashes in 10-second intervals until you get the desired effect. After about 10 strokes holding it at the base of my lashes for 10 seconds each time, the results:

Hmm... Nada. Well, to be fair, there is a slight curl there, but I would rather use a traditional, classic eyelash curler than these heated lash curler wands. It takes twice as long and it hardly curls too. On the other hand, I think that it also might depend on the hair type of the person using it. So don't let this review discourage you.

Now moving on to the electric lady shaver, it really comes in cute packaging too that's why I just had to get it too! And believe it or not, this is the first time I saw an electric eyebrow shaver here in Manila so I got excited.

Again, pretty easy-to-use instructions so don't worry about complicated assemblies and stuff. I for one wouldn't buy it if it was complicated. I just don't have the patience. Haha!

Obviously, it's pink! That's why I like it already. But kidding aside, I love that they girly-fy these electronic devices so that it looks very femme rather than butch.

Pretty standard size, again like a mascara wand. It's cylindrical handle makes it easy to control and to hold. Don't worry about cutting yourself too because it has protective plastic "grills" that cover the blade.

Pull down the bottom holder to reveal the battery slot behind the wand. This shaver only needs 1 (one) AAA battery too.

It comes with accessories too for cleaning the shaver. The only down side is, I don't think NICHIDO sell replacement blades. I wonder how long this will last?

It vibrates when you switch it on, and shaving becomes really easy. WARNING though, easy shaving makes it so addicting to shave! LOL I got carried away with it that my brows now have a weird thin shape! Time to grow it back. The blade is pretty small so anyone who would want to use this on their legs, arms or pits is beyond me. It will take forever. This is best used on facial hair!

Thoughts? Yay or Nay?
Have you tried other brands? Let me know!

  2. The eyebrow shaver is a yay! I have tried a lot of products for my very straight and naughty lashes, but none of them really worked, not even heated curler and the like. I think I should really invest on Shu's curler :) Thanks for the review, Ms. Sabs!

  6. Can't use that electronic shaver. I'm such a klutz when it comes to shaving my eyebrows I might end up with having no eyebrows at all. Nope. No thanks.

The electric eyelash curler though, is quite interesting. I've heard Gossmakeup artist suggested the same type for those who have stubborn lashes. I guess it would work better if you already curled your lashes prior and you just want an extra oomph, perhaps? Although that would take too much time & effort. Oh well. Nice review Ms. Sabs & thanks for the update. ^_^

    1. You're right, that takes too much effort... I would rather just curl my lashes the traditional way :) Hehehe... But anyway, thanks for the tip! That was really useful!
