My thoughts on the MakeUp Eraser

#toolsofthetrade

An online seller I frequent for makeup tools like sponges, brushes, brush cleaners, etc., gifted me with The Original MakeUp Eraser. I have heard about this from a lot of makeup gurus online and they swear by it.

A lot of people also have been looking for alternative makeup cleansers that are more earth friendly, hence this washable MakeUp Eraser. It claims to remove makeup with just water!

The Original MakeUp Eraser

According to the seller, MakeUp Eraser comes in six colors: hot pink, black, white, purple, red, and light blue. Sometimes they come out with a limited edition version, hence the baby pink color of this one.

Sometimes they also come out with printed ones like the watermelon print, the cheetah print, flamingos, unicorns, and lots more.
Reading the label, it is made from 100% polyester, which what microfibers are usually made from and costs 1/4 of the price or even less. It is washable and reusable so that makes it even more appealing.

When I first heard about the MakeUp Eraser, a piece of cloth that promises to remove the heaviest of makeup with just water, of course I was skeptical. It looks and feels like a microfiber towel so I really do not know why this particular towel costs so much. As a beauty addict who is no stranger to waterproof mascara and kiss proof lipstick, I had to try this out.
Have you heard of the MAGIC ERASER by Mr. Clean? I actually expected that the MakeUp Eraser would be the same, that once you wet it, some makeup remover product is infused in the cloth, but that turned out to be a wrong assumption.

Before trying this for myself, I read up a lot on it from their website and from Amazon reviews that once the fibers make contact with water, the cloth's polyester microfibers swell, which allows the towel to trap makeup.
That seemed pretty straight up to me, but I had to try it out and see for myself if it really would stand a chance with heavy, waterproof makeup.

I made sure that I wore a full face when I stepped out of the house in the morning and I will wash my face with the MakeUp Eraser when I got back in the afternoon.
The fibers on one side is shorter than the other side. It's fluffier on the other side, for what purpose? I do not know yet.
I had a meeting that day and this is my face with makeup with waterproof mascara, waterproof liquid liner, eyes shadow and smudge proof lipstick.
BEFORE
Once wet, the towel really does swell up and it feels really fluffy. I used warm water as per its instructions and just started wiping off makeup.
Ok, so the MakeUp Eraser did remove about 90% of my makeup and that's pretty amazing. I gave the towel the true test: could it clean up my eye makeup which is basically the hardest makeup to remove? I rotated the towel to a clean spot and gently rubbed. When I pulled it away, I was surprised that my skin was almost bare!

It even removed my liquid liner which is K-Palette Shadow Liner and that is really one tough liquid liner to remove! Even my brows which is done with Majolica Majorca's Brow Customize and Brow Colorist.

It really did take a lot of my makeup off. I thought my face would be sore after all the rubbing, but I was surprised how I didn't have to even apply so much pressure.
Here is me after removing my makeup using the MakeUp Eraser. Even though it removed most of my makeup, one makeup product did remain: My mascara. My trusty Maybelline Hyper Curl mascara which is waterproof and really needs a whole lot of eye makeup remover to remove if you want to preserve your lash hairs. So aside from the mascara, everything else on my face was wiped clean.
AFTER
The MakeUp Eraser claims that it can last up to 1,000 washes (about 3-5 years) but I think that it still depends on how you wash it. But even if it does last up to a thousand, that is still a lot.

I washed my MakeUp Eraser with a facial wash or pH Care Feminine Wash and hung it dry. I avoided washing with a harsh detergent or a bath soap. Once it was dry, I stored it in my UV sterilizer for safe keeping. I will show you the UV sterilizer I have in another post though.

So, in conclusion, I do recommend this MakeUp Eraser because it will save you a lot of money from Face Wipes, makeup removers and cleansers. I have been using this for a week now, and honestly? I am quite fond of it!
