Splurge vs. Steal (Series 2)

by - Sunday, October 14, 2012

Back by popular demand, I was able to compile a few more products from my notes to compare for the Splurge vs. Steal Series! Enjoy!

1. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (P2,250) vs. ELF Mineral Infused Face Primer (P495)

For all you ladies who are addicted to face primers, ELF may be a good alternative for you. And to some who find having to put primers on the face makes the foundation cakey, that just means you have layered on too much.

Primer works better if you apply it as thin as possible, and having the skin absorb it for about 10 minutes before applying foundation.

ELF Face Primer is a little bit more translucent, but it's only a slight difference. My camera made Smashbox's Primer appear clearer but really, they have more or less the same translucency. This is 1 pump each. This much is too much for the entire face. Half a pump should cover your entire face, always start with as little product as possible and just add more if you need more.

Ok, my photography made my other hand pinkish but I'm telling you it has nothing to do with the primer. LOL.

They both have a smooth finish and dries quite matte. They also have more or less the same faint smell, not a bad smell, but no fragrance at all which I like. They both have the same staying power for foundation!

2. Beauty Blender Sponge (P1,495) vs. Etude House Baby Doll Puff (P375)

The Baby Doll Puff is just a little bit firmer but it still does its job. I love too that it has more control because of the shape! If used correctly, you won't end up using a lot of product! I will make a tutorial on this one too, so stay tuned!

3. MAC Matte Lipstick in Yash (P1,000) vs. M&Co. Long Lasting Matte Lipstick in Biscuit (P190)

If it's matte shade you want, then the closest matte lipstick there is to MAC's Yash is M&Co.'s Biscuit. I love that it's super nude, you can use it as a base to make the natural lip color even.

Yash is just slightly a little bit deeper on the beige side but is very close to that of M&Co. This shade is perfect for really heavy eyes or if you just want a very fresh makeup look for the day!

4. NARS Blush in Orgasm (P1,400) vs. Palladio Baked Blush in Blushin' (P375)

I am obsessed with NARS Orgasm blush. I can't go to any shoot without it because its shade is very versatile with whatever eyeshadow color or lipstick shade you wear.  It really goes with everything. But for my own personal use, I find that it's a bit pricey. I only use it for my pro kit. So I was determined to find an alternative.

I love that it's not too shimmery that it looks greasy in photos. It has the right kind of gold shimmer. A peach-pink blush with gold iridescence.  So finding Palladio's Baked Blush in Blushin' is like finding gold! So now, this is all the blush I bring with me in my "emergency" kikay kit when I quickly need to apply makeup when I left the house without makeup!

5. Lancome Blanc Expert GN-White Spot Eraser (P2,250) vs. Garnier Light Dark Spot Eraser (P199)

Being in the same L'Oreal tree, they more or less have the same lightening powers whith each other. I do believe that the luxury brands such as Lancome do have the first bet at the technology.

When I was being sponsored by Lancome, they gave me tubes of the Blanc Expert and swore by it. Of coursem when I left Lancome and my supply had diminished, I had to find the next best thing. I am in love with Garnier's fresh lemon scent. I love how fresh it smells!

After continuous use of Garnier, I found that my freckles lightened and other sun spots begin to disappear. Of course, you have to use them religiously and apply sun block! It worked just as well as Lancome!

That's all for now my pretties! I will be posting the third series soon when I have the time to gather my notes. Thanks for reading!
