Liquid Mattes

by - Friday, October 19, 2012

It seems like the new trend is liquid lipsticks turning into matte. First time I heard about this is Revlon, and now it's popping up everywhere!

I bought 2 brands to compare that was more or less first in the market (as far as I'm concerned):

COLORSTAY ULTIMATE LIQUID LIPSTICK IN FIRE (P843)

Let me tell you about this product. I love that Revlon has always been the first on long wearing makeup with their ColorStay line that has been around for ages.

Their colors and products have drastically changed over time more so when Gucci Westman came in the picture!

Anyway, let me tell you about this product. I love that its pigment deserves a 10/10. The color and shade is the perfect shade of red that I have been accustomed to using for my skin color and tone. The only thing holding it back from getting a perfect 10 is its overall feel. It's just too sticky. I don't like wearing makeup that makes me feel uncomfortable. When you are applying it though, it feels like you are applying water on your lips. It kind of has that consistency but it's not that messy. It takes a while to dry so you can erase product that strays.

Remember when you were a kid and after you eat sweets the sugar dries on your lips and you press your lips together and they stick together like glue? Well, that's how it feels like. I have to apply gloss on top of it just so I won't feel uncomfortable wearing it.

I love the finish. It's really matte and its lasting power is amazing. I love that even after you eat and drink it stays on your lips!

One of the pluses Revlon has is that they have a lot of shades and colors to choose from. If you're going for matte, go for sexy colors!

LANCOME L'ABSOLU CREME DE MAT (P1,395)

The first time I laid eyes on this lippie on my friend and Preview's Beauty Director, Agoo, I just fell in love with it. After we parted ways in Glorietta that day, I had to rush over to Rustan's to check it out. Lancome had 3 matte shades: #300 Magie Pourpre (In photo), #301 Prune Elixir, nd #100 Potion D.

The upperhand: it glides on smoothly like velvet (i'm not kidding) and it has a velvety finish as well. It doesn't have a shine to it, but it doesn't look dry either nor does it look creamy. I love the smell too. For ladies who aren't used to perfumed cosmetics though, the scent could be a little over powering.

Long after you have applied it and it has dried on your lips, it feels so creamy when you press your lips together. It feels like cream lipstick! It stays on too so that's another plus for me. The shades are sexy too. I love this bright pink shade! It really goes with any skin color or tone too.

Doesn't matter which one you choose, they're both great products. One is almost half the price while the other is, uhmmm, well... You know how luxury brands are. But I like 'em both. It just depends which you will be most comfortable in wearing!

    1. Hiyee! The ColorStay doesn't dry the lips (in fairness) but it does feel dry... But it doesn't make your lips look flaky at all! It's just really sticky! Try it! I love it because it's highly pigmented! It is GAWJUS! LOL thanks for the follow!

  8. Hi Ms. Sabs, have you tried the elf lipstains? Its sooo pigmented and it stays on the lips for sooo long but its not hard to take it off with a makeup cleansing wipes. I used the ELF Lipstain in Red Carpet in my tutorial that I recently uploaded. ^_^

  10. Hi there!

I've tried the Revlon Colorstay, but I also experienced the same thing regarding its texture. Also, I find it too drying, so I'm not really liking it a lot.
I'm interested with the one from Lancome, though. Albeit expensive, at least you get your money's worth. I also love the color on you! Very sexy!

Btw, following you back on GFC, too.

    1. I totally agree! I just wish Revlon can come up with a different texture and feel because I adore their colors! :/ You're going to love the ones from Lancome! It really has a matte/velvet finish and it's really moisturizing! It's to die for :)

Thank you so much for dropping by and for the follow back ♥

    2. Have you tried those from NYX? The Xtreme Lip Creams? They just taste and smell weird, but I like their texture better than those from Revlon.

I can't wait to visit Rustan's to checkout Lancome! :)

    3. Oooh really? I think I'll try NYX out! Yah, Revlon has nice pigment but feels so sticky! :( Thanks for the tip!
