Hair Care Week: DAY 6 Enhancing Your Waves/Curls (Product Review)

#haircareweek #tressviernes

I was born with naturally wavy hair, and growing up it was hard since it was always poofy. Back then in the 90s, girls sported stick straight hair with the bangs flipped over to one side. Me? I had frizzy bangs with baby hair always growing on the roots on my forehead that they stuck out. My best friend was a hair tie.

I finally gave up on trying different products to straighten my hair and started embracing the waves I was given. At this day and age, companies have come out with curling shampoos and conditioners that would enhance the natural texture of your hair.

I bought these products from the US, but you can find them here in Manila -I think I saw some at Piandre once, and some in Emphasis Salon in Powerplant.

I did countless research on some of the best shampoos and conditioners that would enhance the curls/waves without making the hair frizzy and dry. Despite of the negative reviews out there that were said about TIGI Catwalk's Curls Rock, I still wanted to give it a try.

I've always loved TIGI's funky, punk-ish packaging. It's very fun and eye-catching, and they really work! Another one of my faves is TIGI Bed Head's UPTIGHT (heat activated curl maker).

I shampoo and condition my hair at night because I am not fond of leaving the house with wet hair. I also don't like blowdrying my hair because I don't want to further damage my hair with heat.

So last night, I shampooed my hair twice to really get rid of the oils and I conditioned only the end tips of my hair (as you should). Before getting out of the shower, I squeezed my hair to get rid of excess water, and used a towel to squeeze more water off my hair. Don't scrub or rub your hair vigorously with a towel. This is damaging to the hair!

This is how my hair looks like after a shower:

I use a wide-tooth comb to untangle my hair. I have a different wide-tooth comb in the shower to use when conditioning my hair:

I left my hair to hang dry naturally like this. I don't use a ponytail or a clip because these can leave folds and other marks on your hair when it dries:

When my hair finally dried completely, I had big natural waves which some people go to the salon to have done. My hair had lots of volume and bounce. If you want your hair to have volume, do not condition your hair on your roots. Only the end tips of your hair.

I use a serum for my baby hair because those really stick out after a good shampooing. Serums like L'Oreal's Anti-Hair Fall Tonic usually calms it down.

MY THOUGHTS:

  • I love the smell. It smells like a candy store. Although on days I have migraines, I can't stand the smell.
  • You only need a little to shampoo hair with my length.
  • Makes hair shiny and bouncy.
  • It's costly. I bought mine the shampoo for $22 (PhP 946.00), and the conditioner for $17 (PhP 731.00) -OUCH.
  • Hard to find in the Philippines.
  • I do how it made my hair bouncy. I didn't frizz or did it dry up my hair. Although, I don't use this as my everyday shampoo, only on days I know I will have somewhere to go to.
  • The big waves stays intact even without styling products.
MY OVERALL RATING: ★★☆☆

I do have a cheaper alternative (which works equally well, or on some people, better!) Try Herbal Essences' Totally Twisted! It's available in leading cosmetics department stores and supermarkets.
