Common Mascara Blunders
Been using mascara as long as you can remember but still don't quite understand how they really work? Check out these 6 common mascara mistakes!
Too much pressure. If you press your mascara wand too hard and too close to the base then you get ugly brush marks on your lids. You may like the thick look it gives your lashes at the base, but all you are achieving is that it looks like you put mascara in a moving car. Always clean up mistakes with a cotton bud dipped in makeup remover. That's why it is always best to put your makeup on at home rather than during the commute to work.
Pumping the wand. If you thick this will get more product on your wand, think again. All this does is pump extra air in the tube causing clumps and flakes -these will later on end up on your lashes looking clumpy and dirty.
Exposing your roots. If you wiggle your mascara brush at the base of your lashes but not touching the skin, you get a five-star. If you don't, start getting used to it! Neglecting the roots of your lashes will make your lashes look shorter than they actually are.
Piling on a million coats. If you put on 5 coats, it could easily be a hundred. Most mascara formulas are meant to be layered twice. The more product you pile on, the more it will dry mi-application. If you put on a fresh coat on a dry, flaky coat, chances are it will look clumped.
Curling your lashes after. Some people think that curling their lashes after piling on the mascara will make their curls last longer. But all you are doing is risking your lashes of breaking. Curl your lashes from the roots working your way to the tips to avoid the L-shaped lashes, then apply your mascara.
Getting sentimental. If you don't remember when you bought the mascara, throw it out even though it doesn't smell musty. The germs that grow in old mascaras can cause sties or pinkeye specially if you're not the only one using it. Maximum storage for mascara is 6 months.
CHOOSE YOUR FORMULA!
Whatever your fancy, there's a mascara for that! Here are my top mascara picks
this month!
If you like 'em long and dramatic.
If you like 'em light and feathery.
If you like the effect of mascara but don't like the heavy feeling during the day, try Maybelline's One by One Mascara (US only $6.24). It doesn't clump, and it separates the lashes and gives a very natural effect.
If you like 'em fun and flirty.
If you're feeling a little bit adventurous, try Estee Lauder's Colored Bold Volume Lifting Mascaras. They are perfect for summer because the colors are so fun and the formula is light.
If you like to make 'em laaast.
If you want your lashes to look long and lush the whole day and not worry about it during the day, try K-Palette's 1Day Lash Perm (PhP 895.00). It's volumnizing, lengthening and waterproof! It can withstand high humidity so this mascara is perfect for us Filipinos!
If you like 'em doll like.
If you want to achieve the doe-eyed look, try Lancome's Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara (PhP 1,895.00).
What's your fave formula?

Sabs, what's your recommended waterproof mascara remover?
ReplyDeleteHi Mona! I use Shu Uemura's cleansing oil to remove waterproof mascara. I just pump the oil once and massage the oil on my eye area to loosen the mascara and wash my face. :) L'Oreal's lip and eye makeup remover is also good, and so is Maybelline's!
