How to achieve the dewy skin look

by - Monday, February 09, 2009

Thanks Ms. Sabs,

Your blog inspired me to pursue my passion for makeup. I've always been a closet kikay. THANK YOU so much for all the tips. I have yet to really study makeup artistry but I enjoy reading your "tips." Do you have recommendations for foundation brands? I don't know how to make my skin look flawless and a bit dewy. I notice how many magazine looks appear to be porcelain-look? Hope you can share the good brands to use.

Thank you!!

Instructions

Hi Anj! Here are 3 simple steps to achieve the dewy look! It's very easy to follow so enjoy!

Step1
If you have super clear skin, get a glow by applying a sheer tinted moisturizer to your entire face and skipping the powder. If not, use your usual foundation and spot conceal on areas needed. If you feel comfortable about skipping the powder, do so. If not, lightly dust an iridescent loose powder on your foreheadm chin, and cheekbones. Then powder your entire face with a translucent powder. Just a very thin layer.

Step2
Blend a blush into the apples of your cheeks that has iridescent finish. A lot of makeup brands carry these now so take your pick. Choose one that doesn't have visible shimmers. These will only look like dust on your skin. Specially glitters.

Step3
If you have some things going on with your skin you'd like to hide, apply a liquid foundation to your entire face, and then dust with loose powder. Finish by lightly spritzing your face with a hydrating mist, or simply water from an atomizer. Lightly pat off excess water and let dry for about a minute. This will give your skin a dewy look and will also set your makeup that lasts all day!

For products, there are a lot of brands out there that carry good foundations, it's just a matter of finding the right formula and shade for your skin tone. It's ok to scrimp on other makeup products such as blush and eye shadows, but you need to splurge on a good makeup base. I personally use Lancome foundations. On days that I just go the mall or on shoots that require me to put on a little makeup on my face, I use Neutrogena's Mineral Sheers. This is a powder that gives great coverage and has a dewy finish!
