My review on Canmake's Gokubuto Mascara

#eyespymondays

If you have been following my blog, then you would know how stubborn my eye lashes can be. They curl easily, specially with a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, but as soon as I put mascara that isn't Maybelline, they get weighed down and the curl doesn't hold. Duh!

So one of the deciding factors for me on what makes a good mascara is if it holds curl well. I did a little Canmake haul three months ago (you can find that post HERE by the way) and in that haul was this new mascara. The beauty girl at Canmake Somera told me that it's curling and volumizing which intrigued me. Plus, the fact that it was formulated and made in Japan, one would think that it's made specially for Asian lashes.

I have been alternately using this mascara along with all my other mascaras. Every time I use this mascara I always hope that the formula thickened a little bit and maybe it would work better. But I will get to that.

Japanese packaging, need I say more? So I'll skip talking about packaging.

I love the fact that it's pink. All girls love pretty things that come in the color pink. LOL It's a short tube compared to standard full-sized mascara sizes. t's quite compact and handy. It won't take too much space in your vanity kit.

Sealed for your protection, so make sure that sticker seal isn't broken when you purchase!

The mascara brush/wand has a more narrow circumference than the other half, making it easier to reach the inner corner lashes.

The "waist" of the brush makes it easy to coat the longer part of  your lashes which are found in the middle of your lash line.

Below is a photo of me with the mascara on my lashes. I coated my lashes with Gokubuto mascara with three coats: resting 3 minutes in between application. Let me just make it clear. Layering of mascara, let's say three coats, doesn't mean 3 strokes only. A layer of mascara would mean coating all of your lashes with lots of strokes, and then rest for 3 minutes, and coat another layer with several strokes. That is what you call "number of coats".

Looking up, you can see the volume and the length capabilities of the product. My lashes did look dark, however, it did not increase in volume or length.

My lashes still looked thin, and the most important thing was, the curl didn't hold.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:
Length of usage before review: 3 months

PROS
  • Compact, kawaii packaging!
  • Good mascara brush! Can reach lashes easily even hard-to-reach areas.
  • Non-irritating. No strong fumes!
  • Can easily be removed with warm water.
  • Waterproof.
  • Lash conditioning.
  • Affordable.

NEUTRAL
  • Limited stores for now.
  • Pricey.

CONS
  • Did not hold the curl of my lashes.
  • Thin consistency makes it harder to apply.
  • Takes a while to dry.
  • It did not increase volume or length of lashes.

MY OVERALL RATING: ★★☆☆

  1. I also have straight short lashes that are a bit hard to curl so I don't think this will work for me. I love the tube though.
