Get maximum sun protection this summer with Shiseido's Liquid Foundation with SPF 43!

by - Monday, May 12, 2014

With this summer's heat, and the sun is out because clouds are scarce too, it is crucial that you get as much protection as you possibly can! Get SPF sun protection from your cosmetics, so I am using products with SPF as much as possible.

I have been using Shiseido's UV Protective Liquid foundation for about a month now because I am so scared of freckles. Before I switched, I have new ones appear under my eyes actually after shooting outdoors for a day last month. I noticed it when I took photos of myself for my blog and that's why I started using foundation with sun protection.

I am always afraid to use new foundations because I have a very weird skin tone. Most of the time, it looks perfect when I swatch it on the store, but it's completely different when I am already actually using it.

What I love about Shiseido is that their products have a lot of skin benefiting ingredients. Shiseido early cares for the skin.

When I was choosing my shade, I was clueless. I didn't know Shiseido's range of foundations so I had to wing it. Thank goodness for the helpful beauty associates, he chose a shade that was perfect for me.

Light Ochre seemed about half-shade lighter than my skin which can look a little ghostly. But foundations with high SPFs usually apply lighter at first and would adjust to your skin color by oxidizing just a tad. So if you are natural acidic, choose a foundation that is a whole shade lighter.

As usual, Shiseido's packaging at its best. You must be so tired of hearing about me raving about Japanese packaging already. LOL

The foundation comes with a little box that contains the sponge. I just love this blue, sporty packaging. Very handy, and looks really for outdoor. It kind of looks like a packaging for sunblock for the face that you bring when you go swimming, but really, it's a foundation.

I love that Japanese packaging is high on being sanitary. They provided a case for the sponge so it won't get contaminated when you travel. Very very convenient.

The bottle is very small, but it contains 30ml of liquid foundation which is the standard amount for foundations. It just looks tiny as compared to bottled ones because this one is short and stout. While standard foundation bottles come in thick, narrow glass bottles.

I don't know why my photos turn the colors a little washed out here but the bottle is actually a bright blue color. Anyway, the tip of the bottle looks like this. It's a squeezable bottle so dispensing foundation won't be a problem and very controlled. Not to mention, sanitary too!

The foundation itself is slightly a bit runny. Not too much that it would jus drip off your hand, but runny enough to spread easily and get's absorbed fast by the skin. This consistency also is humidity-friendly because it feels very light on the skin.

Swatching it on my hand, you can see the foundation blending very well on my skin, and that it masks fine lines as well.

I don't use a sponge when I apply foundations because sponge tend to absorb too much product, and it just goes to waste. I always use a synthetic brush to apply my foundations so that I get to save more product. Plus, sponge applications are always thicker than when using a brush.

This brush is from Canmake, it's actually their cheek brush but I use it for foundation. It's just the best. Actually, I have been dying to get my hands on Shiseido's Foundation Brush #131, because it's said to be the best, even more than the MAC stippling brush #187.

You can see on camera that the foundation "sits" on top of my skin which a whitish hue. This will all go away after a few minutes. Just make sure that your foundation is equally spread on your face.

This is what I love doing, I scrunch my face to see where I need less product, and if the foundation is flexible enough for it to handle facial expressions before setting it with powder.

The foundation is very flexible. You can hardly see any creases on the nose area. Very minimal creasing so at least there is no need to adjust or remove excess product anywhere.

I love setting liquid foundations with loose powder, or sometimes pressed powders because it give the most natural finish as opposed to using a sponge. Again, sponge application gives a thicker finish. There's nothing wrong with using a sponge, I just don't like my base too thick.

The foundation masked my acne scars and freckles real well, but HUGE raised pimples are still seen of course. You just have to wait until they subside unfortunately.

Don't mind the sides of my lips that are dry by the way. I have a minor case of Angular Cheilitis caused by fluoride so I really get those from time to time.

As you can see, after a few minutes, the foundation has adjusted well on my skin and is now my shade which is seamless and perfect for me. The foundation looks very natural, and it even looks better when it has been worn for a few hours.

  2. This is being recommended by so many people but I'm afraid of it being sticky in the humidity. Some people reported that problem (or is it with a different Shiseido sun care product?) I think there's a stick version and I'm not sure which is which.

    1. Hmm... Maybe it's a different Shiseido product because I didn't experience stickiness with this foundation even on high humid days :)
