Straighten and Revive Your Hair!

Coconut Milk is more than just for cooking your favorite Filipino dishes.

As far back as I can remember, my mom has always used this on our hair. I used to hate it because it interfered with my play time, but this actually made out hair softer and fuller.

So, what is coconut milk? Coconut milk is a sweet, milky white cooking base derived from the meat of a mature coconut. The color and rich taste of the milk can be attributed to the high oil content and sugars. It should not be confused with coconut water (coconut juice), which is the naturally-occurring liquid found inside a coconut.

I went back to using coconut milk again on my hair about 4 days ago. Living in the city, I couldn't get fresh coconut shavings for the milk so I had to make do with the canned ones. If you are going to buy this, look for a brand that has no sugar, oil, preservatives, etc. I buy Coconut Delight's Coconut Milk. Its ingredients are coconut milk, water, and sodium metabisulfite (to prevent discoloration).

Just a little trivia... Did you know that coconut milk is a natural method for straightening hair too? Of course, it may not be instant, but then it is infinitely healthier than straightening chemicals and irons that do irreparable damage to hair. Get a fresh coconut and blend it well, till about a glassful of milk can be extracted from the pulp. Or if fresh coconuts are not available in your area, get ones from your local grocery store. Refrigerate until it acquires a creamy layer on the top. This cream can be rubbed onto the scalp, and left on, covered with a hot towel, for about an hour. Then rinse it off with a mild shampoo and warm water. Repeat this three times a week and you will notice that your unruly locks are gradually straightening up

WHAT I DO IS... I transfer the contents of the canned coconut milk in plastic squeeze bottles and leave it in the refrigerator until I have to use it.

Every morning before I go to the gym, I bring the bottle with me to the gym and use it before I go in the sauna. The reason why I use these plastic squeeze bottles is for their pointed tops. These allow me to aim the milk on my scalp and in sections too! Then I just use my finger tips (not my nails) to massage the milk deeper into my scalp.

Then I wrap a damp towel around my head and enter the sauna. I leave this on until after my sauna and steam session.

Every time I do this, my hair is so much manageable and so soft! My natural waves are reduced and I can leave my hair down. I love how the coconut milk leaves my hair so soft and so easy to comb, which is great news for women who have falling hair!

TRY IT!
