#eyespymondays

Back in 2004 upon graduating from makeup school, Prestige was my go-to brand for their affordable cosmetics and of great quality. Back then, my batchmates were all about MAC and other high end brands but I was in BeautyBar looking for alternative products, so I was really into Prestige and VOV (remember VOV?). I was an start-up/aspiring makeup artist with hardly enough money to support this new career venture of mine so I had to result to affordable cosmetics that would give me the same effect as those high-end, professional brands.

Fast forward to the present, for a while I thought Prestige was no longer available in Manila so I was surprised when I got invited to the launch of the Prestige Total Intensity and Back to Black makeup collection. I guess you can say that the brand has been revamped in a way. I cannot wait to show you the Back to Black Lifesavers!

Prestige Cosmetics Back to Black Collection

Read on to view what superb products are waiting for you at Prestige!

They have quite a selection of makeup under the Back to Black collection, but these 4 products are the stars I was told. That's why I am excited to share them with you specially you eyeliner fanatics out there. The products under this collection are the most advanced in the Prestige line so they're packed with new technology that is very new to the brand.
I am not sure if they sell this set in Beauty Bar, but it would really be cool if they did. I got this set from the launch of the collection so I am not so sure if this is for press only or if they have it in stores.
Today I will be doing a review on the Magic Pen (which is actually my favorite), Line and Style Ink Pen, Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil, and the Makeup Eraser Pen.
MAGIC PEN
This Magic Pen is an all-in-one product for the eyes, lips and brows: it acts as a primer for the eyes to make sure that your liners or eyeshadows will stay put, you can use them with lip products so your lip products won't bleed, and for your brows so you can be guaranteed a waterproof brow that won't get erased sometime during the day! The Magic Pen is featured in a retractable pencil and a special sharpener included on the other side of the pen.

It draws clear too so you wouldn't have to worry about nasty white marks all over your face when you use it.

With the Magic Pen, you can transform any eyeshadow to a liner! Simply apply a thin or bold line on the lash line. Apply eyeshadow on top and it magically transforms any eyeshadow into a long wearing, water-proof and transfer-free eyeliner.

LINE AND STYLE INK PEN
The Line and Style Ink Pen is a 12-hr extreme long lasting and waterproof liquid eyeliner that comes in a felt-tip point pen. The tip allows you to create thick or thin lines that let's you get in between those lashes!

If your hands are a little bit shaky, it's the perfect size and shape to provide comfortable grasp and give you a steadier hand application. I love that this eyeliner is ideal to draw dramatic cat-eye looks in a true-black color, and not greying!

Prestige advises never store pen tip side down and as always, keep the cap on tightly closed to avoid drying the pen!

VELVETY SMOKY EYE PENCIL
This eyeliner isa little bit trickier to apply. It definitely glides on smoothly and silkily like a khol eyeliner but has the lasting power as a liquid liner. This pencil doesn't smudge easily so if you are looking at creating an easy smoky eye look may be a little difficult. I will show you some tips later below on how you can maximize this pencil.

The pen comes with a sponge on the other tip to smudge the liner. It contains cutting-edge smokey powder eyeliner technology that will surely stay on all day (or night!). Once blended, it doesn't budge or transfer. It is safe for waterline use! If you want to avoid the liner from going down from your waterlines to the lower lash lines, I suggest applying a thin layer of Magic Pen on your lower lash lines to stop product from smudging down there! Or, apply Magic Pen on your upper lids so that the liner will stay put on your upper lids.

MAKEUP ERASER PEN
The Prestige Makeup Eraser Pen is an oil-free and alcohol -free makeup remover pencil. Yes! It can easily erase makeup mistakes without disturbing the makeup underneath. It has a soft and reversible tip! If you feel the tip has gone blunt, you can pull it out and just turn it over for a fresh new tip.

This is ideal for obsessive compulsive women who love the cat-eye look because this pen makes it ideal to correct mistakes during makeup application (or shape into a hyper-sharp cat-eye look), including mascara flyway, or mascara smudges when you just blinked way too soon while applying it!

Very easy to use, it won't sting because it is alcohol-free! Effective at removing waterproof/long-wear makeup flaws. Prestige advises that you clean the tip with tissue before putting the cap back on tightly.

Here are the swatches on my hand, I do apologize for the liner swatch that bled, I had just put on lotion when I started swatching that's why it did that.
After applying a layer of Magic Pen on my upper lash lines to prime the area, I drew a thin line of Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil and tight lined my eyes.
I tried smudging the liner as quickly as I could but this is the best smudged effect it could do! The edges are blurred, but it's not as smokey and easy to blend as Flormar's Smokey Eyes Ultra Black Effect, but it does give a very soft smokey effect.

Tip: If you want a more smokey look, apply the Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil on your upper lash lines and smudge with a black eyeshadow.
Then I drew a thin line of liquid liner applying is as close to my lash line as possible as to not over do my daytime look for lunch. I didn't want to look too made up!
I curled my lashes and applied two coats of Covergirl LashBlast Volume Mascara and my Happy Skin Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippie in Under the Sheets.
If you're curious, I am wearing Maybelline White SuperFresh PowderClinique Cheek Pop in Ginger Pop, Benefit Brow ZingsSNOE Slim Shade Me in Peanut to contour my cheekbones, and Canmake Nose Shadow Powder on my face.

When I got home after lunch though, about 4 and a half hours later, I found that my eyeliner has smudged on my lower lash lines. I didn't do any retouching in those four hours so that I can see how long the liner will last me. My eyes tend to water a lot when I wear eyeliners so at least I get to test the products well.
I used the Makeup Eraser Pen which I brought with me in my cosmetics case for easy touch ups during the day. I just swiped it on the smudged areas and pat dried the area with a clean tissue.
The result was really good! The makeup underneath the smudges wasn't disturbed at all and didn't leave any oily marks after. No caking, no caked powder effect around the area. It was really clean! Better than bringing Q-tips with me everytime I wear liners to clean up smudges! I definitely recommend this to women who have the smudging problem during the day. This makes erasing makeup so easy!
Prestige Cosmetics is available in all BeautyBar stores nationwide.

HERE ARE MY THOUGHTS:

PROS
  • Liquid liner lasts all day without touchups!
  • Affordable, quality products.
  • Creates true-black lines, not grey.
  • The Makeup Eraser works very well in correcting mistakes and smudges without disturbing the makeup applied underneath.
  • Magic Pen can be used to prime the eyes, lips, and brows! It also refrains lipsticks from bleeding if applied outside the lip line.
  • Easily available in Beauty Bar stores.
  • Suitable for all skin types.
  • Liquid liner can create thick or thin lines easily.
  • No irritating fumes that make the eyes water.
  • Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil glides on so smoothly and easily!
  • Sets pretty fast and long-lasting.
  • Easy to clean up mistakes.

NEUTRAL
  • Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil smudges when used for tight lining.
  • Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil has a very soft tip that makes it hard to sharpen.
  • The Makeup Eraser Pen tip is a little rough and hard so don't put too much pressure when you use it.

CONS
  • The Velvety Smoky Eye Pencil is a hard to smudge to create an easy smokey look.

Purchased For: Gift from Prestige (Thank You!)
Will I re-purchase? Yes. And I definitely want to try the mascara next!

  3. The Magic pen definitely looks interesting. This should be good for travel because its multi use. Wish you would have tried this with a shadow as eyeliner and see how long it lasts. The classic prestige eyeliner is one of the longest lasting eyeliners I've seen.
