My thoughts on Bobbi Brown's two-in-one Art Stick!

#liptalktuesdays

Imagine a giant lipliner, that's what Bobbi Brown's Art Stick is all about: It has the functionality of a lip liner, and the pigment of a lipstick, and the longevity of a tint. I am a lipliner user because it makes lipstick stay put, and I have a one for each lipstick that I own -well, almost.

This is a makeup trick that makeup artists love to do because it makes for longer lipstick wear and you can define and shape the lips any way you want.

I announced in my blog a few months ago when these Art Sticks from Bobbi Brown came to Manila. It's only now I get to do a thorough review on it though! Sorry, backlog! But I have been using this lippie for the past week!

I love rich colored lippies because it really makes a statement. I hardly wear gloss because I already have full lips, I don't want to emphasize that more by making them look uber shiny like I just ate lechon. I always opt for semi-matte, or semi-creamy finishes that have high pigments.

This packaging is only for press kit though, so don't expect it to come with a box like this when you buy your Art Stick.
I love the personalized box. It was a shade chosen for me, and it's just perfect! You will get to see which shade they chose for me in a bit.
The sleek packaging makes it hard to miss. Looks like a jumbo colored pencil, which it basically is! Well, a lip pencil anyway.
The shade they chose for me is a beautiful shade of red called CASSIS. A very deep red that reminds me of MAC's Viva Glam I lipstick, but somewhat different. This one is a bit more berry or wine, that it is red.
This pencil is very easy to control because of it's lipstick tube size, but the consistency of a lip liner so it's very hard to make a mistake with.
Swatching it on my hand, you can see that it's a bot reddish brown which I haven't worn in such a long time, but truly missed. I love toping this Art Stick with Colour Collection's Ultimate Wear Lipstick in Temptress, and the result is just beautiful! Like a deep, bright red! It's all about layering to get that perfect lippie!
Here's a photo of me using the lippie without anything on top of it. I love how easy it is to use and it's not drying unlike most lip liners. Lip liners really are just for lining the lips, and you apply your lipstick on top. But this Art Stick is a two-in-one product!

I think this shade makes my skin look bright, and my teeth whiter! It also goes well with my blonde hair. I like that it's a deep and dark shade but it doesn't make me look gothic!

MY THOUGHTS
Length of usage before review: 3 bath times

PROS
  • Convenient to bring for quick touch-ups.
  • Moisturizing, non-drying while you wear it.
  • Semi-creamy finish. But more on matte.
  • Long-lasting! About 5-7 hours of wear even when you eat and drink.
  • Lovely shades to choose from.
  • Easy to sharpen, easy to keep sharp!
  • Precise application on the lips because of the lip liner type.
  • Easy to control because of the jumbo size.
  • Does not transfer on teeth when you smile.
  • Fragrance-Free.
  • Buildable color.
  • You can layer with other lipsticks, it makes lipsticks last even longer!
  • Highly pigmented!
  • Transfer proof. Just make sure you blot and re-apply.

NEUTRAL
  • For extremely dry and flaky lips, moisturize first before applying this lippie. I recommend using CARMEX!

CONS
  • N/A

Been spending time for more than a week now reading your blog. Makes my nursing time with baby more productive. Your blog seems a beauty magazine for me, love the ootds though im the slimmest momma one could find (most people thought im just 16'ish :( ). Love all the beauty tips, have to try it for my balik-alindog program!!
Btw, for this blog entry, what's your steal for this lip art stick Ms Sabs? Im a make-up junkie before, but have to give it all to my sisters since i despised the smell of it during paglilihi. But after reading your splurge vs
steal section, got to start again my stash for a more affordable but of good quality.

Love how you look on that shade btw. More power and may you inspire more people especially moms to start feelin good and beautiful inside out! GOD bless ^_^

  4. I've been using a lot of crayon-type lippies this year, so I'm more used to it. Since I find Bobbi Brown products to perform wonderfully across the board, I don't think I'll have any issues with the performance of the Art Stick. However, the thing that primarily deters me from trying this out is that it has to be sharpened. I'm less bothered by the process of sharpening than by the pencil shavings. Ugh. I hate pencil shavings! That's why I've never swatched these.

I wish BB could re-release it in a twist-up packaging with a sharpener tucked into the bottom, like a chubby version of those twist-up eyeliners. Heck, it could even be something like Clinique Chubby Stick. Perhaps my prayers will be answered in a year or two. Their pot rouge has undergone a makeover with muuuch better packaging of a snap lid and it now includes a mirror inside.
